I guess you are running 235/75/16 in that case 31-10.50-15 or 245/75/16 or 235/85/16 will give you 10-25mm increase in GC.

31-10.50-15 is a very common size.

Nitto is a very good tyre. I have had several sets of them in other countries. They approach Michelin in build quality and to my mind that is high praise. I did not know you could get them in India.

Yes, I've got 235/75/16s (BFGoodrich ATs) on my Invader. I am considering doing extensive upgrades to it or buying a Bolero Camper with the idea of outfitting a vehicle specifically to do long range trekking in the Himalayas. That means getting some good GC for starters. 33" may be about right. I will have to change the diff ratios and test out the handling. Might want PS for this, too. More on this later when I have a better idea of how to proceed.

The right size is actually 235/70R16. I feel the 235/85R16 is an ideal size it has a height which is slightly more than 31" without any increase in the width unlike the 31x10.5R15 and the likes thereby not impacting the steering effort.

Only issue is that last when I heard about Coopers going in that size they were 12-13K a piece which is way higher than a Bighorn 31" which is roughly 8.5-9K.

You can go with 33 or 35 with revised gearing. Attaching pic of my jeep with 35".

Hi Tini. What brand-type tyres are those? What price? Are you happy with them?

These are Maxix Trepedors. They give great ground clearance but even with a 125 bhp Isuzu Powertrain, the power/torque is compromised. So altering gearing is a must. I am planning to go with 4.88 but with DI Turbo, you may need to go with 5.3 gearing to get the best out of the 35". 33 maybe a good balanced option.

35" Maxis Trepadors are about 17K Rupees each.

^^ Tini, any idea how much does this tyre + rim combo weigh? Anxious to know this data.

OOPs! My BFG ATs ARE in fact 235/70/R16s. 6000rs per tyre, I paid.

Tini, with the 35" at that price I may opt for extensive skid plates instead.

The Coopers that I mentioned in 235/85R16 are the tyres on the Jeep next to the one with the 35" in the pic put up by 4x4addict. IIRC the exact model is the Cooper Discoverer STT.

any issues with axle bearings?

with 35" tyres the axle shafts, prop shafts, Propeller Shaft Cross etc will be under more torque than they are designed for.:eek:

AFAIK in international offroading scene DANA 44 are upgraded with stronger axle shafts, prop shaft cross, bearings,etc for using bigger tyres.

if the mm axles can take 35" tyres then i have some ideas 34" tyres. (something like BFGoodrich Mud-Terrain T/AŽ KM2)

i am planing to use Neo Claw with ATF sand-grip tyre.
(because M.A.S.S. quoted me 16" Scorpio steel rim set at 20K & i am getting alloy set at 25K :D)

the size of alloy wheel is 16" 6.5j with 160 PCD.

the standard wheel width for sand-grip is 5.5j.

should i do it?

I also want to know if what axles you are using. What about articulation? In the pics, it looks there there is hardly any space.
