Hoping to get some solid advice here ~
So far I've been blessed with Stock Indian Army 16" rims and Apollo Bullets - 4 +1 spare - a rarity as I'm given to understand.
The Jeep is an MM550 - stock mechanicals, hardtop.
Consider my Jeep usage pattern - my primary mode of transport - doing about 70 kms daily - 90% on-road - tarmac, concrete, paver blocks & 10% kutcha roads (dirt roads) - I'm new to off-roading ( a lot to learn!), and it's an exercise subject to whims of time available from work .
Weather wise - I'm looking at approx 4.5 months of good rain (i.e. rain drenched paved roads)
So, here goes :-
- What rim / tire combination suits best ? - given my use-case
- I'd like to retain the tallish stance of the Army (if possible) in this situation
Much appreciate inputs from the forum folk.
has any one tried the ATF tyres for offroad/tarmac use?

What Ply rating are these? DKG was using something similar to the last pattern in last years AKC. Don't remember the brand.

Hi Sudarshan JEE,
The Tyres are 2007 Good Year G90 Radial LT 7.50X16, Made in South Africa.
OEM for the Land Rovers:D.
Allan is the source for these tyres.

Guys i am looking for 255/85 R16 maxxis bighorn , can any one help me sourcing them for a reasonable price .Any other mud terrain 33" tall will also do but has to be not more than 265mm wide.
Does anybody have maxxis Delhi distributors number .
is it possible to use 9x16 tyres on jeep without braking something? (axle shafts. steering, GB etc)
i dont mind bouncy ride.:uncontrol
planning to use these only for offroad use.
& neo claw alloy + 235/75 16 for city ride.clap:

above NDMS is the closest thing to
Bfgoodrich Mud Terrain tyres in India.

suggestions required from jeep gurus.
rgds,
Nikhil
@ Nikhil ,Few thigs you must look ( IMHO & AFAIK )
1) ply rating of the tyre , your Jeep ( armada ) can accommodate tyres up to 12 ply or equal . 8 ply is the best for a 1600 to 2000 kg kerb weight vehicle . 14 & 16 ply rating tyres become heavy & stiff & it reflects in other problems like bearings , suspension etc
2) larger tyres
a) affect turning of front wheels
b) touch wheel wells , fenders ( Ithink armada rear wheel well is not suitable for larger dia tyres .)
3) bearing life gets affected by larger & heavy tyres
4) Handling is an issue , but wont affect you much since you are using this only for OTRs

1) army 540/50 reguarly use 7.50x16 with 22 kg wheels.
i have seen some jeeps with big MT tyres taller than 31 inch & twice as broad. (ex. Maxxis Big Horn 31 X 10.50 X R15)
9x16 is on the thinner side so i think it will be okay with armada. (???)
2) A) not concerned as front axle is wide & with locally made bead-lock wheels (16~18 kg) i can overcome the tyres touching side walls or leaf springs.
B)planning to mod rear wheel arch & wheel wall making the armada 3 door.
3) is it possible change the bearings with high load capacity ones?
4) handling & ride comfort, yet to know about them & dont want to know them either .:D

It will not work as the geometry changes with change in the wheel CL.

What is the best AT tyre under 7500.00 for Thar ? My Usage will be around 70% onroad and 30% offroad (also would like to join with you guys in OTRs).
is 245/75/R16 Pirelli Scorpion ATR a good choice ? I called up the dealer in Coimbathor and he told he can arrange the tyre. Price will be around 7000-7200.
