These, in my opinion, are very indication specific winches.

The moment you are bogged down below the tyres you are in trouble or if you are in a tight spot it won't be accessible. Plus these can only be used in straight line. Angled pulls and double line pulling won't be possible.

Why you do not see much enthusiasm is because this would address specific type of problem but I think would be great for a two wheel drive vehicle.

Also its not deployable instantaneously and in all situations. I am supposing once you are stuck then first you need to loosen and remove all wheel lugs and tighten them after adding the rope drum lugs. Though this is addressed by leaving having special lugs already added to all wheels.

Though point raised by Tejas of angle of anchor is addressed by the front wheel ring attachment to guide the rope.

Will need lockable diffs to work.

Other than difficulties mentioned before, reversing. And moment wheel gets traction line is going to go majorly slack.

Correct Sutripta.

Also you need to shift to 2wd to use with the front guide. If all four wheels move, you are going to twist the cable badly and break it unless the front 'O' ring is freely rotatable.

Also I wouldn't do any angled pulls on this! The friction on the rope with the front attachment is going to be a lot.

Wow, this threads got quite a bit of information on winches! Has anyone heard and/or used AMX winches? I was told it's a sister concern of mile marker but haven't found anything online. Considering purchasing the 13500lbs for my gypsy which will later be upgraded to either a Gurkha or a V- cross, 2 very different vehicles I know but the heart wants what it wants

13500 for a gypsy!

Even an over kill for the other 2 vehicles you mentioned.

Find out the max amp draw at full power. should be around 500AMPs. your alternator won't keep up.

Go small(8K) and use pulley blocks. Better on the vehicle.

If i am not wrong AMX is brand by Amin Sons, they import and label them as AMX. It offers reasonable performance Vs money paid. If you are looking to install this to V-Cross later, you can go for 13500 LBS (these small brands may not offer same performance after few years.). Please refer below information by our Offroading expert Arka posted more than a decade back.

Hi Guys,

The first Criteria is the rated pull of the winch i.e 8000lbs, 12000lbs etc.

1) The rated pull is on the first layer of the drum (total 4 layer)e.g on the 4th layer a 12000lbs winch will have a pull of 8500lbs.

2) Calculate the max rated pull for a vehicle
a) MG410/413--1000kgsX2.2 =2200lbsX2.5/3.5(winching factor)=5500/7700lbs

b) CJ3B/CJ340 1100kgsX2.2=2420lbsX2.5/3.5(winching factor)=6050/8470lbs

c)MM540/MM550--1400kgsX2.2=3080lbsX2.5/3.5(winching factor)=7700/10780lbs

3) The Winching Factor multiplies the pull required in OTR conditions.

From the above information you can decide (keeping #1 rated pull in mind)
what capacity winch can pull what vehicle.

What's the difference between a waterproof and non waterproof winch? Can a non waterproof winch withstand water crossings on trails? What about rains with a cover?

Most new age winches are waterproof - ergo no issues in rain and you can wade through water for a while but dry the connector sockets before attaching the remote and assuming your ground and electrical connections are top notch.

Do not confuse water proof with submersible winches that would be designed to be used submerged.

The Pandemic is fouling a lot of inventory plans. You might try Bimbra in Gurgaon.

In the past Arka had good luck with Chinese winches. See post #25 this thread.

Hi everyone, I have a couple of questions for the experts:

1) For a vehicle with a GVW of 6500+lbs do we still use a 2.2x factor for the max rated pull? My understanding is that traditionally for SUVs & trucks the factor that most folks use is 1.5x.
2) Assuming 1.5x, which means I need a ~10,000lbs max rated pull, and I only have the option of choosing between an 8000lbs or a 12000lbs winch, would it be advisable to get an 8000lbs winch and go 2x with a snatch block, or go with a 12000lbs winch only, to be on the safer side?
3) Given the use case is intermittent + moderate/intermediate offroading conditions, and the paucity of WARN winches in India, what is the feedback on MileMarker winches? Any other suggestions?
