It is a matter of concern because those employees driving the car to the dealer covering apprx 1000 odd kms 'might not' be bothered with niceties like running in the engine etc and might just go full blast down the highway.

It is a risk taken by the customer.

No lurker, handling of the vehicle during this trip is not a concern - even the Bolero's are handled quite well during this drive. Just go up any highway leading to Pune / Mumbai / Nashik [for M&M and Tata] and you'll see. You could even ride in one of these for a few bucks ..

BTW just found some extremely butch-looking 'Gurkha' pics while browsing skyscraper forums...

Certainly hope that they do drive carefully. Else asking customers to be 'extremely careful' while running their engines in would be an insult.

Are you sure this applies to Force Motor wallahs too ?? M&M and Tata might have many vehicles to send across. Whreas the Tempo Trax aka Forcewallah's might just have 1 or 2 with possibly a lone employee ? Actually makes me shudder at the thought !

Quite simple to check the handling - Nashik or Kandivli for M&M, Pune for Tata & Force - the vehicles are driven, so all one has to do is reach the factory gates and follow the vehicles.

From the information I have, these guys would be on contract - not employees. I would bet on the Trax's also being driven down. I only havent seen Safari's, yet - hence the lack of confirmation in my prev post.

The only other thing that comes up is that our vehicles have done about 1000km more [for us BLR guys] than the odo display as we see it.

Do Tata or Force Motors allow factory delivery for these vehicles? It would really bother me to let someone else drive my brand new car and put 1000km on it.

You got to ask Tata / Force / M&M about that. Dont think they do.

If you dont like that mode of delivery, your best bet is to pick up one from the dealer nearest the factory - with all the hassles of temp registration & inter-state transfer formalities.

My Safari came in a truck from Pune. I saw it being unloaded.

Force is NOT currently offering OM611 engines in any of their vehicles.

They are developing the OM611 / G32 for their new generation Tempo Travellers and New generation Gurkha/Gamma/Judos.

First it will be offered with the new generation Traveller vans.

The engine is being tested on a factory Judo 4x4 frame. I was told that the performance is pretty good , the top speed crossed 160kmph and they had to electronicaly set the max speed at 140kmph.

Currently they are offering just one engine variant - TD2650 .

It is a morphed DI version of the OM616.

TD2650 - TD2650FT - TD2650 FTI

Max HP is 72.

My OM616 TC develops 99Bhp. Now I have added an intercooler and it gives me an other 8-10 bhp.

If you are intrested in seeing it

Click on the intercooler folder.

Yes they drive the vehicle down all the way from Pithampur ( not Pune ) . Only Minidor is manufactured in Pune.

They have shift drivers who drive from Pithampur to a mid point "yard" . From that "yard" it comes to Belgaum yard. Then from belgaum yard it is driven by an other driver to Nelamangla. And oddly , from nelamangla an other driver drives it to Dealer ( 40 Km ) .

Yes , no guarantee against driver abuse.

I am getting one for myself. Need to drive one first.

Looks like this is the answer for my off roading needs. From what iread here makes my Classic look like an urban vehicle. If the Judo can do what it shows in the video, i can tell you from my own experience that the Classic needs to do a lot of learning.

Anyone game for giving a test drive?

are you saying you want to sell your classic ?! :)

rrnsss,
Isn't it a strange place for an intercooler? I mean, there is no air flow through the IC to effectively cool the intake charge. Most IC installations I have seen are in front of the radiator or above the engine and fed air by an air scoop, auxillary fan etc.

Gears,
Red-One.
