1. I believe the rims in your jeep are pressed steel 16" army spec steel rims. Am i right. Where can one procure these rims in the "civilian" market?
2. The sandgrips that you have, When did you procure those, was it easy or tough to get them, How much did each cost?
3. I read in jeep thrills forum sometime back that sandgrips increase the ride height by about 1.5" and then the pinion and rings of front and back differential need to be changed from 44/9 to 43/8. Did you have to do this modification?

Thanks in advance
Amresh,
Yes the ride height increases and I also added one leaf to the existing set of leaf springs, total height gain:4". Here in Hyderabad auto rickshaws are the worst lot they just get into you, but when I am riding this brute and come across them, they leave miles between me and them. The rims are rare to find, try Mumbai, Tyres are available in Chennai and Hyderabad for about 25000 for a set of 5, but are old and hard, try to get 2007-8 manafactured. No differential modification done, whats on it is smooth as silk.

Terrainsnooper,
Like you said, With the Army MM550, 2005 onwards model in mind and a very slight deviation from it was what I was look for as the end result, Keep the original character of Mahindra on your MM540 and you will not go wrong and maybe a few extra lights like Hella can help. Check out my threads as I have anwersed many questions to our Jeepers. Any help I am always there.
All the best.

Your advice reg the Hella is taken, next time when I post pics..the Hella's on my JEEP should always be remembered by all as Ashvin's.

Track is the distance b/w the hubs on the axle , wide track would mean a more planted stance. Think about the Gypsy MG410 an the MG410W and you will understand what Im trying to get at. Again im not very sure about the army 550 having a wide track as std.

Randeep,
I have yet to change the engine and gearbox, meanwhile also taking opinions from experts like Mr.Behram on this regard and learning. What did you mean by the short body Jeep?

Superb look!

Hi Fazal,

How I missed this thread. Very good jeep with nice work. Excellent colour combination. Those wheels are superb in that colour. If you put a black hard top too, it will turn like a monster. Congrat!

Sali,
Thanks for your kind comments. Unlike a soft top, a hard top would take away the convertable option, which is one of the many Jeep charm.

Is it like that? I thought 540 hard tops are removals like Wrangler jeeps. Here I can see many Wrangler jeeps with both options and easily removable

Header,
The Bolero gearbox 4WD is for 45000+ new and about 25000 used, depends on the condition. I have not yet done up the XD3P and Bolero gearbox for my Jeep as I am planning to dispose off the present white one.

No idea if a 5 foward will help more than the present gearbox on your stock engine except the overdrive advantage, better equipped to answer your question is Mr. Behram or Arka.
