Arka, I believe you have seen this dust cap, this comes in FF as well as SF axles, may be you missed them out in your BOM (pun intended).
Hi Spike,

In My BOM, its called Differential Pinion Dust Cover, not Axle Yoke Dust Cover/Cap. And I am using them, do you think my pinion would have survived 1.5yrs without the dust cap.

After installation I couldn't see the dust cap/cover and had to double check that there was something. Its recessed

Arka

Arka, good to hear that you have the dust cap. It was never mentioned as Axle Yoke Dust cover/cap. Whatever you call, it is finally a dust cover. Attaching one more terminology used for the same.

Thanks sir, so the Spike A is there only for RWD vehicles right? Also, modern engine / GB mountings take care of a lot of these issues, right?

The Lane change maneuver - when i change lanes in this jeep I end up "off the road".

Rise of the 540 (2005-2006)

Hi Guys,

I bought the JEEP on 19 December 2005, because it had an XD3P, and got her converted to 4WD the very next day with Commander 750 2 Piece FFRA, and bought MRF Sand Grips.

She had a factory fitted metal Hardtop, which I removed and fitted the Frames for a Soft-top

In Feb 2006, the JEEP had a complete make over (the first of many)

Removed the Hardtop and rebuilt the engine, serviced the Gearbox and T-Case, Changed the Steering Box to the Armada RCBT with UJ and Idler Arm.

In Oct 2006, I fitted the Army Wheel Disc (LP1109) and the SandGrips, and got a Soft Top made for the JEEP.

1) Recce#2 for TPC06.

2) Recce#2 for TPC06.

3) Muthathi, Sept 2006.

4) Only Pic of the 1996MM540XD with the original Hardtop and Colour, in Bangalore, Jan 2006 (Kanakpura).

Regards,

Arka

Rise of the 540 (2007-2008)

Hi Guys,

In 2007 the following upgrades were done.

1) Winch in March 2007. (12000lbs Electric Winch Chinese make)

2) June 2007 Auburn Gear LSD was fitted on the Rear Axle

3) March 2008 Auburn Gear LSD was fitted on the Front Axle, this caused major Steering issues and I sheared the splines of the Front Short-Axle.

4) May 2008 FWHubs fitted

5) MRCBT + OKBJ was done in Nov 2008

Pics are from the January 2007 Bangalore OTR, known as the Kolar-Kote Challenge

Regards,

Arka

Arka,
Your Jeep is a very capable hardcore off-roader, YOU the man behind the wheel and the mechanical upgrades deserve the best comments and compliments.
As per your valuable advice I will be starting very soon on the MM550, 51" front and rear Differentials, gearbox upgrade with the XD2 on the CJ3B.

No wonder, you broke the splines of your front axle after fitting LSD upfront...

And for the rest of the newbies who needed to go fassstt.., he was trained to drive at 49.999 kmph wherever, whichever road or obstacle!!

I distinctly remember one PH who actually drove from Chennai to Bangalore like that!!

Engine and GB

Yesterday, while driving back from Major Roy's camp to Chennai, I could really feel the difference in the engine. It was more revvy and grunty. Just the way an XD3P should feel.

For once, highway driving in Arka's jeep was as much fun as offroading in it.

Hi Arka,

What is the spike arrestor for? I see Dhabhar has mentioned in technical terms, but could you help in a simpler way... My Jeep too has one in it. I have seen many abused Jeeps in my Local Hosur Mech without this cable. Also, could you please share the periodic checks for it like - slack, loosening, etc? Does it need lubrication? What are the torque settings for the bolts?

Thanks
Santosh

-------EDIT------
My Jeep did NOT have it on the day of purchase!! I just checked out my pics archive. Looks like it was fitted as a part of the 1st mechanical rebuild @ chennai...

Hi Santosh,

I don't know much about the Spike Arrestor. But the first I heard of it was from UBS, when I bought my Petrol CJ3B and got the cable fitted.

DB Sir, Strongly suggested we use it with the pipe, and I have done that on both my JEEPs.

The difference in acceleration & deceleration is obvious the vehicle feels very sure, you cannot feel the engine and transmission moving (pitching).

I request DB Sir and Spike Arrestor to explain in detail.

Regards,

Arka
