1) Construction
Coil-Over Hydraulic Damper

2) Advantages
i) Eliminates wheel wobble
ii) Eliminates Bumpsteer (when wheels hit obstacles and transfer the shock to the steering wheel)
iii) Reduces wear of steering components
iv) Improves Return-To-Center of Steering Wheel.

3) Disadvantages
i) Does not show/highlight wheel imbalance
ii) Doesnot show/highlight Kingpin wear (cause for wheel wobble)
iii) Makes steering a little bit harder.

Guys,
Seeing the mods he did to his vehilce i couldnt stop myself checking out this monster today. The following are my observations-

1. Rides wider than you imagine due to wider axles both front and rear and also partly due to army rims. One has to be careful to avoid running over someboys foot!!

2. Extremely stable during corners

3. Turning radius will make a small car feel jeleous!

4. The recoil of the steering wheel is faster due to 4 way stabilizer in addtion to all the advantages he mentioned.

5. Didnt notice the steering to be harder, infact was providing the right feedback

6. There were fewer rattles as the body was new, chassis was tighter may be due to new body beds i believe!

7. His steering was centered for the first time and it remained in that position for long!!!! :-)))))

All in all oneKICK *** Jeep! Needs some cosmetic upgrade though)) LOL

what is the 1 Piece FFRA & if available 2 Piece FFRA ?
(i know ffra but confused on 1/2 piece thing)

how did you managed to swap the axle pipes ?
(it must be difficult)(is it possible on any mm axle)

Generally IMO if your kingpins and the suspension is set right, then the steering will remain in the straight position and drive like that for eternity. The trick is to get that right! I suffered for almost 2 years until i found that out!

1 Piece FFRA i.e Bolero
2 piece FFRA i.e older Commander 750DP with the Left/Right off-set Diff.

The Axle Tubes can be swapped around in any M&M Dana 44 Differential.

The process is complicated with a lot of calculation and re-calculations.

There is a whole lot of information available on the internet, But best not to be done if you don't know what you are doing and the implications.

A Few important points

1) Front Axle - remember the Caster and Pinion Angle & Spring Perch have to be reset/realigned.
2) Rear Axle - Pinion Axle and Spring Perch have to be reset/realigned.

Is the rear differential assembly for 4WD bolero/maxx/Marshal different from the 2WD version? The reason i am asking is because I want to get the 59" rear track and 4WD version will probably be hard to source.

For the Maxx Series
Front Solid Axle - 57" Track
Rear Solid Axle (FFRA) - 59"Track

Bolero
Front Solid Axle - 57"Track
Rear Solid Axle - 54"Track (FFRA & Semi-Floating)

Arka, maybe you should start a thread for different types of Dana44's in India. You can differentiate them firstly dimension wise, and also strength wise, starting from the weakest of them in the CJ3b's(due to the crter pin), to the most powerful. I see there are many who are into full-scale off-road mods, and axle info is surely very likely to help them out.
I would have done that but i really don't know much since a Dana44 really does'nt interest me much so i know little about it except its not as powerful as i need an axle to be for the kind of application i need it to be used in, but here in India we don't have much of a choice in axles.

No Difference.

The Rear Differential is off-set Left in the Bolero Series and Centered in the MAXX series.

Look closely even Maxx single cab truck has slightly left off set rear differential. Maxx tx and festera models also have left off set differential. The center differential is still present on commander Di turbo series. Apart from that every other vehicle has left offset differential i guess.
