Firoz, Nice to see the finished product. My days of Envy continue.

3. Other documents needed would be a sale letter from the original auction buyer stating that he is selling it to you.
4. All forms duly signed and the new RC book.

Once you have all these registering in Kerala is straight forward.

Hope that helps

Firoz, This Surely Helps. Thanks for detailing it out. Have asked many countless times. Am happy I did not even have to ask you.

Also do ask the Mods, to change the Title of the thread if you like.

well i must say there is always a way to get around the rules and laws of the land when it comes to registering the vehicle in anyone's name anywhere in india!

looks like punjab is a favourite destination for the registrations, i think mainly due to the agriculture based economy of punjab.

anyway i will also be registering the vehicle in punjab but genuinely in my Father-in-Law's name at his village address. that way it will be a genuine registration!

hey do post us the photo of the new number as and when you get it!

army wheels are the in thing these days, they do make the jeep look different from civillian versions!

Thanks for the wishes everyone.

I do have question for everyone. I want to establish a good security system for the 550. Aas everyone knows the current keys and lock system of the mahindra is not so burglar proof.

So i was thinking to purchase a complete lock system of a good vehicle like a mitusbishi or a toyota and install it in the jeep. Is this possible? Any problems by doing this? Has anyone done this?

Please forgive if the question sounds silly and any input is appreciated.

Firoz

its not a silly sounding question at all.

i would recommend a fuel cut switch and an ignition cut switch to be iinstalled in your jeep!

no its not silly atall
What Ive decided to do is get the gear locks installed on my jeep. Further as an added protection you could get the steering locks too.

Don't forget to secure the spare as well. Another good option is a couple of wheel clamps with decent padlocks on them.

The other day I saw some devices which lock the clutch and brake together.

Best to find as many of these deterrents as you can.

Hi all,

Thks for the inputs, so the different key system is not a silly idea after all.

Now i still have a query, please clarify.

If I am changing the keys and the ignition mechanism to a Mitsubishi one, what do i need to buy?

Please help

All the suggestions I could think of are given.

I think a secret Engine cut off switch and Steering lock would do the trick.

Have replied to your PM as well.

Hey Feroz!!!
Any updates on the restoration???

BTW buddy I need a clarification
  • What was the registration process you went through!!!
  • Did you directly get it registered in Calicut or first in Punjab and then in Callicut?
  • What was the total expense in either of the case?
Please advise

Hi harjeev,

Am coming into calicut next week. So phase 2 of restoration will start then. Regarding your question about registration, the registration was first done from punjab and then papers given to calicut in my name.

The papers have been sent to punjab, still waiting for the reply to come back.

On another note, a question to all people here, am planning to get alloys for my jeep. I have two options, either get from Dubai or buy locally from India. Please find two pictures attached.

Please advice which would be better looking with M/T tyres.

Firoz

Prestige according to the distributor only have 15" alloys with the 139.7 PCD. The only 16" ones I have come across are Lenso ones.

Will you get the second design if you buy locally in India? The only jeep in which I saw this alloy was a modified jeep from Kerala and the alloys were imported. In my opinion, you should choose the design based on the shade you are finalizing for the jeep and the overall tone. The second one is different and looks really good.

Thanks Feroz,
Whenever possible please also share how much you spent on the number transfer from Punjab to Calicut. And by this you muct mean that you will be getting a new registration in Calicut, i.e. a Calicut number! Right?

Regarding the alloys my vote goes to the second picture, it gives more character to the jeep,
In my opinion it sends out a statement of being classy, sturdy & rugged at the same time!!!

Its just my opinion, in no way I mean to harm anyone's sentiments

Hi Firoz,

The alloy in the smaller pic would look better than the prestige.

Cheers !!!!!!!
