Can anyone helpme reg. the difference between a Borg warner transfer case and the other kind which I think would be BA-10, I recently picked up a BA-10/5 with alumunium auxillary case, also what is the difference between BA-10 and BA-10/5, please pardon me for deviating from the original theme on this thread.

Fazal,

BA 10 is the name of the 5 speed gear box and brog warner is the transfer case. The other one which you find on old jeeps is the T-18 transfer case which is gear driven and very strong. Brog warner is chain driven and makes less noise. The shift quality is much better needless to say!

The gear box which you picked already has brog warner transfer case in it. How much did u pick that for? It is quite rare?

regards vinod

Thanks guys. To be frank, in the looks department I only added the alloys, winch and replaced windshield frame.

No, I didn't get it painted, where did you hear that? That was just rust proofing the open metal parts. The top was installed even before I took delivery.

Vinod,
Thanks for the info, I got it for 38 thousand which I understand is less as the market is short of these geraboxes. On the main gearbox is a small plate that has BA-10/5 printed on it, my queiry is what is the /5 for?
Is it for 5 speed or do all BA-10's have the /5 on them?
How is Borg Warner superior, other than the chain driven mechanism?
Somehow I felt the cast iron transfer case was more rugged is it so?
Sorry, Vinod no more questions for now.
Regards,
Fazal

Red Liner,
As I replied to Vinod, 38 tousand is what I paid for it. Just curious, why was the price most important?

/5 is for 5 speed GB. A four speed version identified by /4 was used on the Peugeot 505.
