I was laughing my guts out when I read the conversation between you and your driver... 50 to 50 hota hain clap:

But seriously:

1. It's Beautiful (not sure this is the right word I can associate with a Landy)

2. Better pictures please, Interiors too.

3. Is it getting JBL'd (I suggest not. Keep it as it is, rugged)

4. Ride kabhi milega?

PS - Thanks Techno. I think the translation should help our non-hindi speaking members

Hilarious thread sam. Danger gaadi Danger aadmi ke paas!

Great one Yeti. Congratulation on your find. Can't believe there are still people who will gift Landy to strangers. Put some more pictures please

Wow! What a luck, Yeti!

I now believe in Santa Claus! :D

I simply change into second while I am under 10mph. Then it works just fine.

hmm...usually the popping and grinding are 2 different things.Popping out means the shifter linkage is worn out and grinding means the synchros are shot. Looks like you might have either one or both.

I guess above 10 mph the synchros have to work harder and hence the grind. Eventually its going to grind all the time as the syncros wear out more.

I'd say first (and easy) step have the shifter linkage looked into. There are several bushings, sleevs and grommets that are a part of the linkage and could be worn out. A good mechanic can either use parts from another vehicle or fabricate something to make it fit.

If the grinding still persists, then you need a gearbox rebuild which involves opening the box. Its not a big deal if you can procure the rebuild kit. IIRC the 93 Discover has a TD77s transmission.

In the meantime, you can try a good synthetic GB oil and when you drain the old oil check for metal chips to make sure the gears are not being chewed up due to the grinding.
Either way...long term you need a GB rebuild.

I know you have no interest in OTRs, but atleast take her to a nice himlayan trip, driving on the riverbed with boulders, just like the owners manual says! :D

I intend to Tanveer. I intend to get places. Your travels are an inspiration.

4. Ride kabhi milega?

1. I agree. Beautiful. Thank you.

2. Yes, I have not taken any yet. I will.

3. No Sir, it is not a demo car. It has JBL speakers and a Panasonic head unit simply to listen to music.

4. Don't know. When we meet and I have the Landy with me.

An adventurous 4x4 for the adventurous first couple of TBHP. Gifts are generally for the deserving and they are obliged to use them with greater responsibility. (And entertainment of others.)
So, let the Great Indian Road Adventures begin!
