BTW- Welcome to the club, I am also a proud owner of a 1998 LR Discovery Series-1. Its a three door model & 50th Anniversary Special Edition which is very rare here in UAE.Its not turbo diesel like yours, mine is powered by 4.0L V8 Petrol Engine. I bought it only a year back and But I am in love with it now. I was looking for LR Defender for many years.Couldnt find anything in my budget and finally settled for this Disco-Series-1.

Though a fuel guzzler me and kids (5y and 2y old) enjoy the Discovery thoroughly,Infact they are crazy about it!

Attaching pics my Disco. ( taken in a park with peacocks around). Whenever I look at it, I still cant believe its a 11 year old vehicle!! After a full wash, still looks like, it was just rolled out from the production line.

Sam saab, Wonderful would be an adjective but your thread speaks more than that. I just finished reading the whole thread at one go and i am still feeling the rush of emotions of an owner of beautiful monster. Congratulations on your luck, as mentioned , i shouldn't stop dreaming some day it will come true. Hope that you would be coming out with many more travelogues in this new find!

Congratulations on your gift brother!!.. I was myself hunting for a Landy for quite some time and the motor god's finally smiled on me.. managed to get hold of two Landy's, in almost pristine condition on Gangtok :D.. Can't wait to get back to India..

RuAAAAARRRRR.

It happens everytime I want to drive the Land Rover. I sit in the driver's seat, place the key in the ignition. Crank, start and smile.

It has a funny seat, this land rover. After I've put the faux leather seats it has become more comfortable (for me). The seat holds on to me quite nicely, like a racing seat. But the headrest is odd. I cannot rest my head on it and drive.

One would assume that driving this Land Rover would be more stressful than driving a regular modern sedan. It's quite on the contrary.

I drive the Land Rover with a whistle on my lips. This car generates both stares and respect. And nobody plays the HOOL game with you. People from Mumbai know what I mean.
No - I simply drive. Rickshaw-wallahs move away. People nod and smile. Those who know tug at their friend's sleeves and mouth the words Land Rover.

To be honest, my whole life the most romanticized image in my head of the Land Rover was the defender. Now that looks like a mean machine. The kind Steeroid has I think.

But now, with my soft suspension, plush seats, power windows and air conditioned off-roader, I think I'm very pleased with myself.

Sometimes I get the urge, since I haven't yet gone off-roading. I simply haven't had the time yet. But sometimes I get the urge.
Then I drive my Land Rover over a sidewalk, over a divider, sometimes over a large pile of concrete up and down and then sideways.

Then I grin. I don't stop and do it again.

Sometimes I am on a road facing an impossible mound of road debris. Perhaps they're digging again. I just grin and raise my left wheels all over it.

Aaaah. I've off-roaded for the day, lol.
