Re: Team BHP gets one more MM540 4WD

HT kills the look of a jeep however as you are looking for A/C option hence its a must, lookout for ROPLAS stallion this time its good.

Did anyone fix A/C with soft top ? is it possible and how efficient is it ? I am wishing this option for my MM540.

The idea or upgrading Thar with alloys, huge tyres, a/c and all those good stuff is a good and Thar is much comfortable in city driving compared to bolero as Thar is short. How is the front seats of Thar to that of older version ?

Yes GTO has fixed up ac in soft top .You can very well look for his thread of mahindra classic rebuild and have a vicarious pleasure regarding his improvisations.

Re: Team BHP gets one more MM540 4WD

i am looking for 16 inch alloy wheels of 6-7inches width (5 Studs x 139.7 PCD) - if any of you know about even 2nd hand alloy wheels, pls let me know friends....as i think, alloys are one thing that make my jeep look sobre.

jeep gurus, i now have 195/85R16 AT tyres, so what is the maximum width i can go, for the alloy wheel rims ? i dont plan to upgrade on the tyres in the near future, also if at all, i may only go for the OE size and width, so please suggest me the correct alloy rim's width ?

as the rains have started, a/c fitment gets delayed till year end. my a/c mechanic has suggested to change to bigger or 4 core radiator for 80 degrees engine temperature. i am thinking of fitting the tata toyo make mahindra maxx pickup aluminium radiator, as fazal saab has done to his latest creation. which is adviseable ? (i am having an xdp engine and my temp needle always stays at 80-90 degrees range, not more not less)

manasm, waiting for your hardtop to get completed, as i have bought a set of bucket seats from a toyota estima van, which has 180 degrees rotation on the base, can make the seats face forward, opposite (face to face)or backwards. fitting these seats(in rear) and aircon - both need a good looking hardtop, which you have created to near perfection for the thar.

best regards.

spike - yes, i have driven other 2wd mm540s, which are "noiseless". there is some harshness, but no unwanted whines, in the other mm540s. the specific noise, which comes when we take feet off the clutch - is there is almost all 540s. even after changing the release bearing, the noise is prevalent. that sound i have to live with...ok, i accept.

the whine in my GB is from the gears, so i need to change the 3rd, 4th gears, plus also look for the same problem in the TC also. i presume, if i change the gears, and the countergear, the whine maybe eliminated. will try this route in the next week or so ?
Dear Shekaran,

My MM540 XD (XD3P) is suffering from the same problem.
[list=1] The noise gets started only in 3rd and 4th gear. In 3rd gear - initially (in first half) there is silence, the noise starts when it is time to change to 4th - meaning at high speed.[list=2] The noise becomes loader as I change to 4th gear. Keeps increasing as I press the pedal - exponential to speed. But gets reduced *some what* above 75 kmph.
  1. At any time - any gear (3rd/4th), any speed - if you withdraw your foot from accelerator, the noise immediately disappears. Appears again as you press the accelerator.

Were you able to sort out this problem?

I need your help, this is the last (I hope) problem in my Jeep I am facing.

Re: Team BHP gets one more MM540 4WD

i recently (15 days before) changed my clutch plate - from the old finger type to diaphragm clutch. opened the gearbox and changed the main shaft bearing, checked all other things - assembled the GB, and when test drove - voila ! the noise WAS there as before - not a change in the musical effect. infact i did change the release bearing, clutch fork, cable etc., hoping to reduce the "chala chala" noise on idle speed. nothing happened at that aspect also.

i have the same loader type noise in the GB, which the mech says can't be rectified. earlier i had the noise exactly as you had mentioned, in both 3rd and 4th gears - on acceleration at 40-70kmph speed range. below 40kmph speeds - no noise, after 75-80kmph speed also, the noise retires. NOW, after GB work, the specified noise is there at 4th gear only, absent in 3rd gear.

i am also looking for tips/info - to reduce that specified noise from the GB - pls share info, if you found the culprit. Sorry as i am helpless/clueless now.

best regards.

This is really sad and frustrating.

For that "khar khar" noise on idle (audible most in idle and goes away as you press the clutch pedal fully) my mech said I need to change the pressure plate (and clutch plate if necessary) and warned me not to do so as the noise will start again after 6 months. As per him, all Peugeot engines have this problem.

As a newbie I can't PM to anybody. Can you PM to the GURUs, if they can help.
Also I found http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/4x4-te...ml#post2296048 somewhat related to our problem.

Shekharan, Hiren
Our member Fazal Bhai faced a similar problem which he mentioned was with the 4th gear bushing. I don't remember exactly so would be good to pull him in the loop. Let me do that.

Aditya

Re: Team BHP gets one more MM540 4WD

After 4WD conversion, the transfer case was leaking oil. I got it checked and found that it was only ~ 300ml left out of 2 Ltr . In the T-case, the front output shaft developed kind of a deep line on the surface due to which the oil seal was not able to seal the oil completely. The shaft got surfaced on lathe, a sleeve got fitted so that the oil seal sits on it tightly and than the problem of oil leakage got solved.

I drove the vehicle after topping up the T case oil. The noise in 3rd and 4th gear is still there but it is *very* low now, low enough to live with

However I am going to keep an eye on it. I don't think my current mechanic is interested any more. Perhaps because he can make more money in routine work rather than digging deep into this. Anyway, if my Jeep happens to meet an expert, will ask about this noise.

I am happy that all mechanical work got completed. Now I can start thinking on some beautification
