By the way the extra/fog lights on the grill were a period accessory or some particular models came with this design?

It has been fun, and because it is for our Club, well that makes the work even more worthwhile. Up to now, we have been guessing how many are left and the best guess was between 2000 and 3000. I think that 3000 is probably close to the real number, so I have more work to do!

The extra lights in the grille are in fact Cibié driving lights, which illuminate with the main beam. All 404 Coupés and Cabriolets built after July 1966 (1967, 68 and 69 models) have those lights.

The first Coupé I had from 1981-1985 was a 1967 model (VIN 6800274) and it therefore had these lights. They were very powerful! My present 1966 model doesn't have them and in a way I think I like the older version of the front end better. But both are nice. My 1966 car has a pair of Cibié Z-Beam headlamps replacing the sealed beams that my Canadian market 404 C came with and they are just as good as the driving lights in the later models, and excellent on dipped beam too.

The 1967-1969 models had different nose panels, different grilles, different front bumpers mounted higher up on the front, different under-bumper valences as well as a revised instrument panel (three dials - none of which is a rev counter, instead of a strip speedometer) and seats.
