My camera battery charger plugs into my wall socket and has the below mentioned graffiti on it...

Volts: AC 100V-240V, 300mA, 50/60Hz
ChargerType: Li-ion battery charger
Output Volts: DC 12V 500mA

Any advise?

Re: Electronic chargers/inverters for cars (for laptops and other devices)

Laptop usually needs higher current than your camera charger.
So lets say if your laptop was 100W at peak power, a 200W Belkin inverter would do fine.

It will charge your camera batteries with ease.

Regarding Laptop charging, if its a small 15" piece, its okay, otherwise the current drawn from car battery will touch 10A, and 10A is usually the fuse rating.

The Scorpio comes with a 15A fuse as standard for the cigarette lighter socket. My Belkin had a 20A fuse. Changed it to a 10A fuse, with a few spares lying around, because it's easier to change the fuse on the inverter than fiddle around under the steering column on a pitch dark night in the middle of nowhere!

Car Inverter-Cum-Charger With 220 V AC Supply

My Linea does not have provision for 220 V AC supply for using laptop for long time during long trips. So, I am looking for a good car inverter-cum-charger that converts 12 V DC into 220 V AC through the cigarette lighter socket. I searched and found this in ebay.in. Any reviews on this Belkin AC Anywhere car inverter? Kindly advise whether I can go ahead with this or if there is any other brand, please suggest.

Re: Car Inverter-Cum-Charger With 220 V AC Supply

This gadget is a real interesting stuff I saw at my neighbourhood sardarji's car accessories shop. When I asked him he said its good stuff and they drove to Delhi in their Innova and carried the same inverter. On the way connected a juicer to that inverter and enjoyed fresh juice on the go.

Just wanted to check with bhp'ians here on the kind of impact this inverter will have on the battery. Wouldn't it drain the battery if you connect a juicer.

My Linea's cigarette lighter socket can withstand up to 15 A, and with its battery's DC supply of 12 V, I can use any gadget with a power consumption of 180 W or less. So, please check the gadget's power consumption before use to prevent blowing of fuse.

I would say 150W may be more like it. These inverters are not exactly the most efficient. If you need more juice you should be able to go for a bigger fuse (within limits). Some older cars may even have 10A fuses, so maybe 100W is more like it.

I will agree that Belkin are excellent. Tropicool should also be very good.

I am using a Belkin with 200W output. Works great, also has a USB charging port.

Re: Car Inverter-Cum-Charger With 220 V AC Supply

I have one purchased for 250 Rs from a local electronic shop (the one which is used by THELAWALAS), connected the wires with battery of the car and putted a 15 Amp fuse in between. I use it for charging my laptop and phones in the car. It is hardly of the size of a little kids lunch box.

Re: Car Inverter-Cum-Charger With 220 V AC Supply

J.Ravi: Something like this? 100W Universal Car/Home Laptop AC Power Supply with 8 Connectors (AC 110~240V / DC 12V) - Free Shipping - DealExtreme

You can also search for similar stuff on DX web site, in case interested. DX ships as well, but takes a few weeks to receive it in your hand

EDIT: Just saw that you have placed order at letsbuy.com, sharing still as it might help others.

Cheers
