I hear you. In addition to the skills and confidence of executing the DIY, it is also about tools and knowledge. A lot of times we do it just once, so investing a lot of money in the right set of tools is a waste of money. Even something as simple as tightening a screw to a specific torque level is sometimes too important to know.
Thank you.

If you're not hardwiring the dashcam, it's a DIY task, assuming you're well versed/comfortable with routing wires and concealing them. There are a lot of videos that you can follow. No electrical cable interaction in involved since you'll be using the 12V socket to power the cam. But, if you're hardwiring the unit, I would strongly recommend a professional installer, especially one who is experienced with your car make/model. I had unpleasant experience with people claiming to be professionals and not able to handle it well for certain cars. In Bangalore I've seen rates from Rs. 800/- to Rs. 1,500/- for hardwiring the dashcam.

Thanks and 3-4k is not an issue but main problem: there is absolute different range of dashcams between capacitor and battery based models with varied features. So its very imp to know if capacitor is mandatory or not in Delhi. After that I can explore and compare the models according to my budget (13-14k). For example: Starvis2 based Dual channel Capacitor based models are limited and expensive, while there are so many Battery based models with Starvis2. So first info I need if I look only Capacitor based models or Battery based also fine? |
It's not like only capacitor based is mandatory in Delhi, it's about your use case that is how often would you be driving under direct sunlight in those harsh temperatures which would pose a risk to your device if it's battery based. So it's your usage and affordability.
Do bear in mind, some dash cam is better than no dash cam in our roads.:coldsweat

So you mean battery based pose risk in high temp regions? Btw driving in high temp/direct sunlight is not a concern as the AC will take care of inside temperatures.

High temperatures would over heat the cells in the battery, causing their capacity to reduce over time, expand as well and in worst case scenarios, explode. This applies for any lithium ion battery.

Not true. AC is designed to maintain a comfortable cabin temperature for the passenger. The dashcam would be mostly fit on a windshield so that area can still be relatively hot. This localized heat can cause the battery failure. Unless there is a cut off inbuilt in the device to turn off the device in high temperature, continuous exposure to localized high heat would definitely degrade the batteries.

It’s not about driving but parking. Parking in harsh sunlight, especially in places like Delhi, makes it safer to opt for capacitor-based dashcams. Capacitor dashcams are more heat-resistant and durable in extreme temperatures. A good starting point could be the VIOFO A119 Mini 2 for the front, and you can consider adding a DDPAI Mini Dashcam for the rear when your budget allows.
If you’re open to taking a minimal risk, you can opt for a battery-based dashcam. However, keep in mind that battery have a limited lifespan and will eventually need replacement, adding to the overall cost. Additionally, lithium batteries in dashcams may emit harmful gases when exposed to excessive heat, which is a potential concern in high-temperature environments.

One or both situation (parking in hot sun or driving in hot day) could lead to deterioration of the Li battery. However I think that driving in hot condition where sun is directly heating the unit and also it's constantly running, makes the matter much more worse than parking. It's similar to heating in laptops where constantly charging, running and improper ventilation may lead to baterry issues even though it could be sitting in a AC room alll day.
I encountered a small issue during long drive in Kerala during peak summer where, for few seconds, the cam glitched as it was overheating. But it recovered as the drive was thru forest so it got chance to cool in between.
Having said that, capacitor based would be better bet if one is concerned about overheating. Precaution is better than cure.
I got a 70mai Pro Plus+ A500S Dual Channel Car Dash Cam as gift and planning to get it installed on my Seltos.
Can some one please suggest a good installer in South bangalore preferably in JP Nagar, Jayanagar, BTM Layout and surrounding areas.
Also typically how much would they charge to install a dual channel dash cam?
Vijay

I have the same model. I got it installed in 800/- in Pune which I was thinking is more but looking at the good history of the store, I was okay to pay extra. He did a good job. While installing,I realised that it's better for rear cam to be installed by someone who knows cars already instead of I trying to do it as a newbie.
Just ordered a Viofo A229 Plus dual channel from the website. Also ordered a Viofo 128 GB SD card, front and rear CPL filters. Opted out of the hardwire kit though, as I'm going to use only the 12V port.
Mr Vijay from Viofo support is a very knowledgeable person, and in fact guided me to get the 128 GB card over anything bigger. After I said I need only 2K resolution, his suggestion was directly A229 Plus, with no push to upgrade.
I told him that I was concerned about voiding warranty (my Brezza has the full 5-year extended warranty). My usual parking spots in office and home both have CCTV coverage and a dedicated security guard to watch that area. He advised to then skip the hardwire kit.
Zero upselling once I was clear about my needs. He's also recommended an installer based on Viofo customer reviews.
I hope this dashcam turns out to have as uneventful an ownership as my Brezza.

I had initially planned to DM you for his but posting it here as it may help others as well. Wanted your inputs on below:
1. You got both the front and rear dashcam installed through an installer?
2. Which vehicle did you install the dashcam in?
3. Please share the address/google maps location of the place from where you installed the dashcam.
Thanks!

Yes, Both Rear and Frint installed together. Punch EV Empowered Plus LR and got Nexdigitron 70mai A510 Dual.
No Hardwiring, Just 12V port.
Dashcam (+ Card) also bought from Nexdigitron office/store which is located in Sonchafa building on Dange Chowk Road between Wakad and Hinjawadi.

I didn't check for switching off the screen fully but while recording, it shows Time and a small green dot to indicate the it's recording.
Whenever a big pothole is crossed at higher speed, it also makes a beep sound to indicate that Emergency Recording has started.
We can adjust the sensitivity settings in App as well as on the cam to adjust when it considers any video as 'Emergency'.
