Got the dashcam and it works wonderfully. I just have one problem. the dashcam came with a cigarette lighter socket and my Kushaq has an issue - the socket remains powered even when the car is off which can cause battery drain. I couldn't find good adapters on Amazon for the cigarette port to type c. Any help?
PS: plugging it out every time fouls with the always connected type c wire and might as well ruin the wire in due course. |
You could use a splitter like this-
https://www.amazon.in/gp/product/B09...?ie=UTF8&psc=1
It has buttons on the side which allow you to switch on or off the individual 12v sockets. I have been using a similar one in my Figo for over an year.
It does look a bit ungainly though due to the size. There are cheaper options available but I am unsure about their quality.

Just ordered a Viofo A229 Plus dual channel from the website. Also ordered a Viofo 128 GB SD card, front and rear CPL filters. Opted out of the hardwire kit though, as I'm going to use only the 12V port. |
This is what the live video feed looks like. Seems decent enough, hopefully will last for long without issues.

Your Kushaq has a USB-C port in front? One of my friends got a USB --> USB-C adaptor for his Dashcam installed in Kushaq and it works fine from USB-C port. |
So here are the issues:
The Red Tiger cam has a USB c input but doesn't seem to accept the USB-power delivery standard used by our modern cars and chargers (E.g.: the apple, pixel, nothing wall chargers are USB-pd). It needs a traditional usb-c to usb cable (like the Oneplus, Vivo type wall charger).
After figuring this out, I purchased this c-a cable and everything worked fine when I tried it with an external power source (I used a power bank). However, when I plugged the same cable into the car (Skoda was kind enough to provide a c-a adapter during delivery), the dashcam and the car treat it like an external media device like a pen drive is being connected. The car reads it as a mass storage and the dashcam is possibly thinking of it as being connected to a PC. Cam shows a blue screen with "mass storage" written on it and doesn't record.

I don't think this option will work for me. I might forget to switch it off and cause a battery drain. The link shows Rs. 220 for this product, which seems pretty reasonable though.
I spoke to Red Tiger support as well multiple times and they are adamant I use their plug and play hardwiring kit to a fuse that is powered off when the vehicle is turned off (which I suspect will void my warranty as Skoda was pretty clear I shouldn't use the fuse box).
I see 2 potential solutions:
1. To use a USB c/a to cigarette socket adapter. While I have scoured the internet for one previously as well to use with my inflator, I could not find one that had good ratings and was priced at about 500. I might get one experimentally to see the results.
2. A friend suggested trying the rear usb slots. My only issue here is how leaving it connected will be a recipe for disaster. Someone using the rear seat might just not see the wire sticking out and could damage the port and the cable. I also need a longer cable to achieve this.
It really surprises me that I'm having to go through so much trouble to fix a dashcam. The way I see it, Skoda, Red Tiger and the whole "hard wiring" kills warranty is the issue here. My experience has been so frustrating, I would love to sue Skoda if I had the resources for it.

Is VIOFO worth it over the other brands available for under 10k in India?
I am planning to buy the A129 Plus Duo from the USA at $160. This thing here costs about Rs.21000. Many reviews point to VIOFO and the Sony starvis sensors they have. I am worried of the reliability of this product and the applicability of warranty here. Can someone please recommend equivalent products that are sold here at possibly a lesser price? I need a dual channel dashcam with front and rear coverage. The main requirement is clear visibility of the name plate to identify hit and runs. Thanks in advance |
I have been using VIOFO A129 on my car for last 7 yrs. Everything works fine except for GPS. Changed it once but it stopped receiving signals second time as well so I decided to continue without GPS feed. Everything else works like a charm. If you are okay without GPS feed, go for it. I have been to extreme high temperatures of Gujarat and parked in open many a times to the tune of 48 degrees. Still it works fine.

You can get this cigerette lighter socket splitter. It has a switch to turn off the power to the dashcam when not needed.

I have a similar arrangement for my Redtiger F77 dashcam.

I have the same model. I got it installed in 800/- in Pune which I was thinking is more but looking at the good history of the store, I was okay to pay extra. He did a good job. |
Hey, I'm from Pune as well and will receive my dual channel dashcam in a few days.
Can you tell me the shop location which helped to install your dashcam cleanly?
I live in Kalyani Nagar, and I had read good reviews of a store near Amanora Park Town (SKY Car and Bike Boutique), just outside the mall.

Can you please share the details of where did you buy redtiger f77? a link would help. It is not available in Amazon.
I saw a YouTuber connecting a dashcam to a 20000 mAh power bank which is wired to the car's 12V socket through which he was able to record while the car was parked.
I'm not sure whether this method is already in use, but I found it interesting as it helps to monitor the car while parking in a public place without hardwiring. But there is a risk of power bank overheating on a sunny day, which sounds hazardous.
He seems to be using a Qubo dashcam, although I am not sure about the exact model though.
Attaching the YouTube video for reference.

Hello, coming here after reading the very helpful F77 review. My existing 70mai does not power on due to no use for a long time.
Any help on how to power it on after prolonged unuse, or how to know if the battery is kaput? Product: 70mai Dash Cam Lite Model: Midrive D08
I might have to buy something new. Please recommend a front dashcam only (not dual channel) model with:
1. 4K recording
2. Starvis 2
3. Inbuilt storage 128GB if possible
4. App, WiFi, GPS
5. Display
6. Collision detection with parking mode
Will be powered by a cigarette lighter in a 12V socket.
Recommendations for RedTiger, VioFo, DDPAI and 70mai models please. Probably I'm looking for the single channel version of F77 I guess?

I think the Viofo A119 Mini is the best fit for your requirement:

I am thinking of getting the Redtiger F17 3 channel dashcam. But, did not find a lot of reviews for this particular model, so I am hesitating a bit.
The other option is the A810 &0Mai, which is a couple of thousands more and has only 2 channel set up.
Has anyone got any experience with F17 3Ch dashcam? Appreciate your reviews.
Hi BHPians,
I recently purchased Redtiger F7NT after going through several good stories here on this model. I installed it myself on Friday to my New VW Taigun and it was easy. My wife helped a lot in installing it. Now the point is, I keep reading that if we need parking vigilance, we need to hardwire. However, I am connecting this Dashcam to 12V ciggerate lighter socket and after turning off my vehicle, the Dashcam still records, which means the parking recording continues even when vehicle is turned off. I m worried this will drain the car battery. But again everytime disconnecting is also not a great option. Please advise, is this normal in all the cars or something I need to get fixed.
Thanks & Regards,

Hello bhpians, I installed ddpai mini pro in my Swift today, I have not hardwired it, I just want to check if someone knows where can I get ddpai mini pro cpl filter?
I tried Amazon, nexdigitron, dashcams.in but on all sites it is unavailable. Has its production stopped? Can someone help me with any vendor? |
Hello,
I am also looking for the same CPL filter for DDPAI Mini Pro. It is not available in any of the eCommerce sites. Were you able to find one? If yes, can you please share the details?
