Hey Gunbir,

Good pics,, I had a similar install on my 02 Indica DLX..This was done to get more bass out of the system and did not want to loose on the "limited" boot space.. The install served well without rattle for more than 3 years until i sold the car..

Anyways..a good job with the pics clearly explaining the details.

In some cars, we may have to invert the spare wheel and this creates a problem while we check air as we need to remove the sub to remove the wheel. Also..in case we have a flat on the motorway, we need to display all the wares on the roadside..

Hey Gunbir,
What is meant by ?

You can use any good sub... as long as they can do infinite baffle well.
Can you suggest some in 12" and 15" range?

I am considering putting it in my New Honda Civic, which comes with 15" alloys (I guess with some customization 15" speaker might fit).

Also, without an enclosure what about the gaps which would let air flow leak and reduce the thump? HOw is that handled?

To make alive an old thread.....

Does the sub woofer in the spare wheel well need to be a free air type? or a normal closed enclosure type type will do?
Having said that the power handling will be low as compared to sealed enclosures, since the volume of the 'spare wheel well enclosure' may be less, how is the overall response of set up? Can we quantify the result?

No It doesn't have to be a "free air type" subwoofer.

The sub in this install is running off some 170w and output is sufficient. Its not as much as a sealed enclosure. But it goes fairly low and blends well with the 4" coax front stage. If you're a bass head, this compromise is not for you. But if you just want to fill-in the lows, this works quite well.

Hi Atease, the Pioneer shallow subs are not that great. Stick with regular subs and you will be fine.

Ya I agree here they are not good. but the looks are quite good. they are meant for show off but not for sound.

Thanks for the info, wanted some suggestions on alternate woofers. My current install is:

HU Alpine 9833
Pyle DVD Player
Polk db6501 component speakers in front and rear

I plan to include an amp and sub woofers.
