My favourite is Sadness from Enigma. It has awesome beat to show off the bass.

320kbps is still lossless. in fact there is not real zero loss ripper however there are many good mathematically lossless rippers out there. The most popular is FLAC. however I use WavPack.

I would log on to hydrogenaudio.org for more on this and all this has been discussed on another thread on this forum.

Sound files to test car audio system capability

Are there any sounds, which can be used to test things like speaker effect, subwoofer clarity etc, I got a Dolby test track online which is a helicopter but that is all for speakers, and surround, what about bass ?

I used to use a Stereophile CD then I realised that I like to listen to music. So I retired the Test CD.

One thing I have heard about is Not to play "Hotel California". Pls use your regular cd's / cassettes when you test.

But the biggest problem I have faced is actual performance in the vehicle. The dealers set it up neatly, but the system will not sound the same in the vehicle, and will differ from vehicle to vehicle.

Sorry but this is all rubbish. What will you do with all these test CDs?

Find a song you like best. Play it in your car. If you like the way it sounds, you have a good system. If not, then maybe you should look at another.

The End.

Well you did'nt quite get what I am looking for,
I was looking for sound files that actually test the performance of the speakers,
for ex for bass not all songs have the same bass effect, some more, some less, but If there is some sound test track, where the subs performance is tested to the max but not jarr, well that wud also differ from sub to sub, but some sound freq that most subs can produce optimum effect on,

Speakers part I have solved as the tracks are available, but subs I have not seen a song that really is the test benchmark for a subwoofer.

Hey 929RON,

Though i agree that playing music is the best way to check out your setup, i also think i know exactly what you are looking for, something to show you the capabilities of your system which "music" wouldnt normally push to that extent right?

Try getting some tracks from "Bass Mechanics". (bass mekanics?)

For example their track "Welcome Stranger" has bass peaks at exactly 30, 40, & 50 Hz throughout the song.

Check them out.

Just like driving is the ultimate test for a car, music is the ultimate test for speakers or other hi-fi equipment. You dont test your car on the dyno only now do you... cuz the dyno will only give you results about one aspect of your machines performance.

Stick to good music for testing your system.

Edit:
Some bass heavy tracks you may like:

- Three 6 Mafia - Late Night Tip
- Busta Bhymes - Touch It
- Lil Jon - Get Low
