Re: SJ1000 Action / Dash Camera - An extended review(SJM10 update pg.15)

was wanting to buy a dash-cam since a long time, and this thread was just adding fuel to fire!

after a lot of mental deliberations, just ordered M10-Wifi (Black, full kit) and windshield mount, total $ 105.08 from Banggood.com. hopefully, I get the items in few days, and without any customs mess.

@DryIce : thanks for the ready link of windshield mount, and btw - that coupon code didnt work. additionally, did many futile attempts for searching a discount code!

now the wait starts

I never thought about it, but then I came across this thread

A couple of questions for users of that little M10 cube...

I see recording time given as about 90 minutes. Is that with a 32Gb card? Can it loop and overwrite earlier records?

Are people using this on battery, or USB power?

Sorry if this is all old stuff, it's a case of newbie on a long thread!

90 min does not seem right for 32gb. It could be the recording time on battery. I have another version with similar specs (sjcam 4000). With a 32gb card it can record ~4hrs of footage in 1080p HD. It records in 3 min clips and will automatically start overwriting the oldest segment once full.
In a car, this is typically connected to the 12v point with a regular car charger.

though I have not used it, based on my reading of this thread:

- loop & overwrite recording is possible
- max 32GB card supported, which may give ~4hrs of continuous FHD recording
- on-board battery takes ~3hours to fully charge, and can provide you ~70-90 min of recording
- using a USB power, you can extend the operating time; eg. use a USB 1A+ power bank while you are on a hike; running will depend on the size of your power bank!
- in car, use the usb charging - device even supports "car" mode, which means starts/stops automatically based on car's start/stop.

found two good reviews:

I think your questions have been answered already by Rajeev and pranav, I just want to add a few things.

It keeps on recording and overwriting older videos. You have to select 'loop recording' in settings first though, along with the length of videos - minimum is 3 mins. 3 min videos in 1080p occupy about 360MB each, so you have past 4 hours of footage at any time.

Another helpful setting is the car mode. If you switch it on, cam will start recording as soon as it gets power and stops recording when power is removed. Basically, you don't have to turn it on/off everytime.

I bought the longest one I could find on Amazon - http://www.amazon.in/gp/product/B00GGMKKC4
Quality is good, and seems to charge the cam fine. Yet to test thoroughly and install it though, will do it over the weekend.

A 3M USB cable will not be able to drive the device as there will be a voltage drop due to the length of the cable. I had tried a similar setup with a 1.5 meter cable and it worked however i later changed the setup to a 12V to multi-port USB charging station as i wanted to power-up multiple devices with the same. Check the following link for information on the product :

Re: SJ1000 Action / Dash Camera - An extended review

Why not to buy from SJCAM.com website itself? Better offers on other sites or any other advantages / reasons?

Thanks. Liked both these links. Its $95.39 + $3 shipping thro' China post, offer includes 1 additional battery & desktop charger thrown it with the cam.

Another link at aliexpress of the same seller but without additional battery & desktop charger-->> http://www.aliexpress.com/item/1080P...684922889.html

Few more links...

Better to order from these links or SJCAM.com company site? The difference in price ranges from Rs. 500 - 1000

Just did a quick search on Google and came across a post in a FoxOffer.com's Facebook page where someone remarked that the SJ4000 WiFi lens is 170° while the SJCAM SJ4000 WiFi lens is 153.6° only. FoxOffer.com denied it saying both have 170° FOV

Also, the AliExpress page mentions the viewing angle of SJCAM SJ4000 WiFi as 153.67° (I've shared the link above)

EDIT : SJCAM website mentions the FOV as 153.6°
SJCAM.com site now mentions FOV(D) as 170 degree

Re: SJ1000 Action / Dash Camera - An extended review(SJM10 update pg.15)

EDIT:

Just saw another "Pack" offer on SJCAM.com site - Cam + 1 additional Battery + 1 battery charger + Transcend 32GB card (I think it is Class 10 or UHS1)...Total $119.90. The additional items are for $20 difference. Free shipping (dunno is they ship to India)

http://www.sjcam.com/packs/128-sjcam...32gb-card.html

Is it a good deal?

Comparatively, aliexpress combo deal is for $95.39 + $3 shipping = $98.39 plus I'll have to buy 32 GB class 6 or above memory card separately. So, the difference between aliexpress deal & SJCAM.com offer is about $10 only

Transcend 32GB class 10 card costs just 890/- in Flipkart.

3m would be more than enough. I have a similar setup running through the roof line, A pillar, door beading, passenger side footwell, side of the center console and finally onto the power output point. I bought an extension cable which is coupled to the shorter USB cable which is connected to a Belkin USB adapter. I have one picture of it.

Yes. But in $20 i.e. for about Rs. 1200, it's giving 1 additional battery + 1 additional charger + 32 GB Transcend class 10 card...not a bad deal

However, I just realised one other factor which might prove costly - aliexpress and those sites can declare it as gift tagging price to be <$20 but SJCAM.com might not do it and might just ship it with a price of $120 which will attract higher duties.
