Head to head - Car audio buyer's guide

Exactly what I found when I googled the first few words within quotes. Didn't really feel like embarassing the chap.

OT: I was off TBHP for a while and saw your posts in the review of sumooku, absolutely hilarious, had to laugh rolling on the floor

I just changed my JVC EXAD Dvd HU to the newer Touchscreen version of the same. I love the performance although nothing else is a JVC; amps are Alpine and JBL, speakers are Polk Momos and Vibe. It is a definite improvement over the earlier Exad (which wasn't bad either). To be very honest, I was extremely skeptical about buying JVC, but i'm really impressed by the performance. Another factor was that the Alpine HU with similar features costs around 88K, while this set me back by about 35K!

Can you please specify the model?
Where did you buy it from? Grey or with bill;and how do you like the performance, a few snaps would be great!
Planning to buy one myself in the next few days!!

i have been reading through the ice threads to figure out my setup and doing some google based research and must say JVC sounds like VFM considering pricing and features available (not being such an audiophile i can compromise on SQ bit but i definitly like the bling in JVC)

My swift comes in tomo finally and i would be doing the ice on it

can someone help and tell me if these are available in india and what will be the appx pricing on these

here are the 3 products i have my eyes on
KD NX5000
KD-AVX33
KW-XG700

also where can i get these in mumbai ?

I have JVC too. I like it a lot. KD-G635. I was looking for one with USB input and cost me about 10K.

NX5000 this is specific to navigation, if you are not using GPS no point going for this model.
AVX33 I am considering it as well.
Here's my thread.
http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/produc...ks-bta200.html

XG700 is a very cheap and different unit.(Regular Dual Din) and not cutting edge but should be cheap and good.
Your price ranges from USD 250 to USD 1100.
One suggestion is to look for products between 500 to 800 USD and check out the features.
Have a look at my thread, I think the DUAL din with 7 " screen is awesome as well.
For JVC SQ I will leave it to the Gurus to respond.

My frind just brought a Swift VDi - He installed some Double Din JVC Player ( only MP3 ) with aux in - the sound was mind blowing !!!

HU - Dual Din JVC ( only CD - no cassette )
4 speakers in all doors ( component speakers ) - me not an ICE Guy !!
JBL - Woofer in enclosure.

All this cost him 27 K !! Excellent VFM I Think .

My Next setup is going to be the same.

You need Pics - let me know. Will click some and post it.

The only problem i find in JVC's new entry level HU's is that there is no PAUSE button. Its really irritating at times...

well i finally got mine

JVC it was as it suited the budget right and i wanted a double din for aesthetic reasons

KW-XG 706 - this is how it looks (JVC Mobile Entertainment \ Model KW-XG700)
even though the suggestions have been jbl
i went with JVC speakers as they sounded good in the demo, and i wanted to test a setup which has all things 1 company
4 way 6x9s (JVC Mobile Entertainment \ Model CS-V6945)
and these for the front door (JVC Mobile Entertainment \ Model CS-V525)

yes i do miss the amp and woofer but then i have been spending a lot lately

might upgrade the whole speaker set when i do amps in a month or 2

the setup cost me
HU = 14990 (with bill and 18 months warranty)
6x9s = 3900 (with bill and 12 months warranty)
5.5" coax (for front door) = 1090 (with bill and 12 months warranty)
installation - 600 bucks

my review - I like the SQ a lot, just that i miss the thump, which of course i will add on later

yes the demo set had sony as well as jbl speakers, not that they were bad
but jvc was quite comparable in SQ at least it sounded nice to me and i am not much of an audiophile so for me in many cases the difference is minimal

and when i compare it to my NHC which has a pioneer doubledin the SQ in that is also nice and the system definitely sounds a little louder cause the 6x9s get the empty boot to resonate the sound more but most of the time the reverbs caused tend to overshadow the mids

no problem in the swift with that, the mid lows and highs are well defined
sound is crystal

I just bought the KD-G635 HU with USB playback option. I have one query here. Can I directly plug in the iPod into the USB port using the same cable I use to connect the iPod to the computer? Or do I have to use the KS-PD100 cable only?

thanks
JVC (Victor Company of Japan) has been bought by Kenwood. While I haven't got a hands on experience on them, I can vouch that their touch screens and DVD HUs with that chotu screen rule the grey market. Not aware of official range.

Alpine and Sony, both offer a 2 yr warranty on their HUs. Alpine also offers a theft insurance. Though I really doubt if one could claim it given our bureaucracy.
