Did you get a sub yet? you can look up my thread below on underseat sub in XUV. Key thing to remember is that in a SUV with much larger cabin area the underseat sub is effective mainly in the row of seats under which its installed. In my car it works amazingly well for mine and passenger seat but in the middle seat its effect is reduced significantly. Work for me cause others in my car usually dont care as much.

Haven't installed it yet just thought to get an idea for future upgrade. Thanks for sharing, as you said the bass is decent and can be felt only in front row. My point is it will server the purpose as Endy already have a sub in rear so last two rows will not suffer at all.

Then it makes perfect sense. I noticed this in Hexa as well where the 8inch sub at the back is not strong enough for the front seats. Having an underseat sub will be a good setup and make the sound more even across the cabin.

Re: Underseat Subwoofers

You need to understand when placing a subwoofer in any vehicle trunk area, you pressurise the area with low frequency and subwoofers are mainly like air pistons that do just that, pressurise the environment. In a vehicle , this can create a pleasurable effect where you not only hear the music but feel it as well. That is the reason why car audio subwoofers have come a long way since the early 60's/70's and moved from home to vehicle. Back in the olden days, it was unusual to see speakers bigger than six inch in a car and most only had a single speaker in the front centre of the vehicle and car audio has come along way from those yester-years. In conclusion, you don't need a 15 incher in your boot, just a simple 8 - 10 inch subwoofer would generate a good result as long as it is tuned to blend in with your front and rear speakers (if you do have rear speakers). Bass should be omnidirectional so in a well balanced car audio system, you should not be able to determine that the bass frequencies are generated from the rear of the vehicle, but when you boost the low frequency signals, the bass increases but as a result, the sound stage in the vehicle is then moved from a well balanced sound to more bass generated from the rear of the vehicle. If you like a decent sound in your car, then aim to do just that. Bass is pleasant but it does not have to be too authoritative to shift the sound stage to the rear of the vehicle. Finally, I don't recommend purchasing those under seat subwoofers as they are not actually subwoofers, they are woofers, tuned to cut off at around 200hz so it creates a mid-range thump to your current system. The term subwoofer is incorrect as a subwoofer generally operates from 80hz and below frequencies.

You are right that under seat subs dont necessarily go as low a regular sub but they are easily capable of going down to 50-60Hz depending on the model. They are not crazy loud but fill the music well. Usually most of the models have subsonic filters since the speaker is not capable of vibrating that low.

You seem knowledgeable about this, I was told in another thread that the kia Seltos HTX+ has a very underwhelming sub despite the fancy "Bose Branding".

I mostly only listen to EDM or podcasts, for the former I have always found the bass lacking, and was recommended a underseat sub.

I definitely don't need that crazy thump I used to have in my cars when I was in my 20's, but I need to feel some bass, so what's a good budget oriented option for this. Also should I install amp?

Having gone the Sub-woofer way (a regular 12", driven off the amp), I sometimes wonder if I was better off with a better mid-range for the rear set of speakers. And for any one who wants to install a sub, I would suggest to first try with a good set of mid-range speakers running off a good amp. If it still feels insufficient, then by all means for something like an active sub. Try a 10" unit.

I have got something similar on my V-cross. Served the purpose but first try what Condor has suggested. Most of the BMW’s have subwoofers under front seats.

Re: Underseat Subwoofers

So I ordered the Blaupunkt xlf8a via Jeewajee decors in Chennai (Amazon was not delivering and I didn't want to wait till whenever they decided to deliver), was supposed to install this Saturday but govt imposed another strict lockdown so install on July 1

Quick question though to the guys who have installed a underseat sub, do you secure the unit? The internet tells me that this particular model weighs 4.5kg so not featherweight, but still seems odd just leaving it in there.

Also what's the difference between this and the Blaupunkt xlf200a?

Re: Underseat Subwoofers

Need a little advice from the experts here. I am planning to install an underseat subwoofer in my VW Polo 1.6 2010 model. I am currently using the stock speakers with a Kenwood DMX7018BT head unit.
I came across the Zoook Moto69 MonsterX1 subwoofer on amazon for ₹7499.
Any reviews on this product or any better alternatives would be highly appreciated and how good are these underseat subwoofer systems considering the fact that I don’t want to compromise the boot space?

Had used a 3/4" MDF to mount the subwoofer. Pre-drilled the holes matching the subwoofer mounting points and then slid that MDF underneath the carpet and then mounted the subwoofer.

Would suggest you to look at other brands that are known and reliable. What is the budget you have in mind for the underseat subwoofer?

Don’t have a fixed budget in mind but I certainly don’t want to go overboard with this. Anything under 15K would be a comfortable price for me.

  3. Pioneer TS-WX130EA - ₹10,300 (MRP on Pioneer website is ₹16,000)

Re: Underseat Subwoofers

I am noob when it comes to sound systems and woofers. I own TUV 300, and got Pioneer 7 inch touchscreen and JBL Coaxial speakers installed. I did not experience any change from my stock speakers, then the car decors suggested woofer. Mine being a sub 4 meter vehicle, it has very limited space in boot. I am exploring under-seat sub woofer and wanted to know what are the items I would require
  • JBL under seat sub-woofer (Amazon has 10k)
  • JBL 4 channel amplifier (7.5k on Amazon)
  • Wiring kit (1000 bucks)

Local dealer quoted 18k for above. I am not sure if to proceed or not. Please advise if pricing is reasonable or not and also if anything is missing.

He also quoted for a small sub-woofer around 7-8k but unknown brand.
