Can you provide the specs. of the Headunit and the JBL speakers. Adding an amp. will boost the audio significantly and you may not need a sub-woofer unless you need deep bass that vibrates the car.

In fact, a well tuned configuration of a good amplifier with a good set of component speakers will enhance the audio quality significantly. I would suggest component speakers over a sub-woofer, provided adding an amp. does not enhance the audio quality in the existing setup.

However, if you still feel the need of a sub, I would suggest at least a 10" sub-woofer for better audio quality. And sub-woofers can be detached when there is a need of space.

Considering you did not feel any change from stock speakers, few things you could try, if not done already.

Add an amplifier only. And change your speakers to Components. I experienced significant change in audio quality after I added an amp and components. You can add SW later if you miss the thump. Components in front and move your coaxials for rear door.

Second, what is the source of your music? Most streaming apps will have 320 kbps music which will sound just average. Playing it over Bluetooth will not help the matters. You need good source (cd quality) plus a wired connection (usb or wired CP or AA).

If you cannot get high quality music, that's okay. Just add the amp and listen to it. Plus, save the money from SW and get the doors damped.

Hope it helps.

Re: Underseat Subwoofers

Do you have the component speakers or co-axials? The link is pointing to component speakers.
Nevertheless, most of the JBL co-axials are having RMS closer to 60-70W, so how is the audio quality when the volume is slightly jacked up, say around 60-70% of the max. range of headunit? If it is satisfactory, you may not even need an amplifier.

Some speakers have an RMS of above 100W, most of these speakers won't perform well without an amplifier as the head units are restricted mostly to 50W per channel(50w X 4) at max.

Re: Underseat Subwoofers

Friends,
Today, installed alpine pwe-v80 sub woofer in my one year old Ford Ecosport as it was terribly lacking in bass and sound coming from present speaker was very uninspiring. Im an old hand and used to hearing it from Sony and pioneer car stereos in the past and the present stock in ES is not to my liking. PWE-V80 still seems to be the best when compared with other under seat sub and advised to me by friends who had installed it in their car and it did immediately make a huge difference to the way we hear music and the installation was done by an experienced hand . The bass in low and high frequencies are clean and no rattle at all. I was worried about the warranty part and before installing checked with my SA of Ford and only on his approval did I go ahead. I purchased and installed it from Sri Radio house Chennai who are one of the best in business and had a lengthy talk with the owner about the product and also on interferences in the electrical line before purchasing it. I did not buy it through online as again I need to be dependent on third party installers and not sure on warranty part. Apart from the cables and connector we need to buy Rca cable and inline connectors and there was no wire cut at all and only clip was added to the existing lines. The unit sits well under the passenger seat and firmed by two way 3m tape so that it doesn't jerk during bumpy ride. Sharing few snaps during installation.

Re: Underseat Subwoofers

Hi Folks!

Need your expert guidance as I am new to car upgrades. VW had me scared for warranty and with Honda City being my dream car I decided to just go YOLO

I upgraded speakers in my Honda City 5th gen V. I replaced front speakers with infinity component speakers and rear speakers with infinity coaxial speakers, I also got infinity amplifier added which is placed under the front passenger seat. I didn't upgrade the HU. So currently the 4 way amp is powering all the speakers.

However, I still feel something is lacking with the audio. Like I need to crank up the volume to 40-50% at which point music sounds better. Should I upgrade the stock Head Unit? If yes can you please suggest a better alternative that can support apple carplay and would an underseat subwoofer help? I am not too keen on installing a sub woofer in boot and sacrifice the space as I have already Struggled a lot with space issues in my polo.

I am not looking to turn heads in public with the thump but a more fulfilling experience for me so the music can sound good even at low volumes.

Source of music is my iPhone which has lossless audio added recently.

Thank you!

Re: Underseat Subwoofers

Sorry to sound like an idiot, but can we mount underseat subwoofers in the trunk of innova instead of a proper subwoofer?

Re: Underseat Subwoofers

Yes, you could definitely do that.

However, doing so would defeat the purpose of an underseat subwoofer. It's going to sound just like an additional speaker at the back with barely noticeable extra bass. Not worth the high price for such speakers (big brand names) according to me.

If you want slightly more clarity in your existing setup and you want to save on trunk space, this could work.

Re: Underseat Subwoofers

SoundGuru's - has there been any technology improvement in underseat Subwoofers? past comments in this thread suggest the performance is Sub-par. Is it still the same?

I feel the need for a Sub-Woofer but then, the boot in my car, a KIA Sorento, has a 3rd row that is used sometime and is my Dog's space in other times. Can't really install a Sub-Woofer there. Any Brand/model number suggestions?

One that came across in a feed:

I am not using this - I have a Infinity 1200S powered off a 5-channel. But even that shallow mount sub takes some space.

Hi, if you can lay your hands on Rockford Fosgate or Alpine pwe80 flat type subwoofers it will indeed make a huge difference in the way you hear music. The flat type is compact and doesn't occupy space at all and is discreet. I've alpine installed for two years and it has enhanced my set-up considerably particularly, in traffic and long drives.

Quite happy with the performance but quite pricey too. Do not expect an experience that you get from traditional amp/separate sub. A lot depends on your head unit as well, do not expect a great performance from the speakers if you have a below average head unit.

Fixed on a wooden plank and clamped it to a cross rod under the seat:

Re: Underseat Subwoofers

Curiosity kills the cat kind of question!

Does installing an under seat sub eat away your leg space? Do the people at the back have to be more careful not to hit it with their feet?

I travel with a pair of naughty brats in the back seat and I am concerned that I may end up travelling often to the accessories guy to get the sub fixed back!

If it were an amp under the seat, I would have said care required. However, with the under-seat sub, the connections can be at the side - preventing cables from being touched. And if the sub is mounted well, like @balenoed has shared, then you should be fine.

Re: Underseat Subwoofers

Hi

I am looking for an under seat sub-woofer for my Venue DCT 2021 model. Till now everything is stock. So thought of adding an under seat sub as I want to keep the boot free. I reviewed this thread but just wanted to know if there have been any recent experiences. My budget is around 20k (Can stretch it up to 25k). I saw the reviews of Pioneer TS-WX130EA but people mentioned it lacks a remote. Anything with a remote would be better.

As specifications of Pioneer one says there is no need to get a direct connection from the battery. Does it work the same way for others as well?

Also, any recommendations for a shop in NCR that does good work. I read about driven and the one in Lajpat but the sense that I got from Google reviews is that they don't bother much about customers with such low budget. Any other recommendations?

Thanks
