Installing android on Intel PC platform is what even am trying to do for my carpc. I have not started on it yet. I will definitely share if I come across something useful.

Have you followed these steps to install ?"How to install Android or run as live CD on PC or Netbook"

Re: The CarPC / Carputer Thread

I need the display powered to use reverse or when i need to connect the tv out feature from mobile phone when the pc is not ON. I had used a physical switch to control power to pc when required.

Don't want to use a pc platform in android. looking to adapt something like this. this has hdmi out so cant connect with present display i have but can use a adapter in between.

Re: The CarPC / Carputer Thread

I would go with Respberry Pi. With little working around with the software, it would make ultimate In-Car entertainment system.

I would still like to have some info on interface for OBD......like

https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...l.torque&hl=en

But this one for Android

Re: The CarPC / Carputer Thread

Does the Raspberry Pi have 4 channel audio output?

I guess the 3.5mm jack is only 2 channel.

Re: The CarPC / Carputer Thread

If you really want 4.1 sound, you should use an external USB-based sound card, instead of the buit-in audio. Most of the USB-based sound cards have Linux drivers.

Perhaps they did not associate it with the fact that during cranking, the power to the Cig Lighter sockets is switched off! The only way the charger can get damaged is if it is a cheap, badly designed piece. Which might also explain a mobile going bad - if the charger is putting out a large spike when power comes on. Even then, I would disbelieve what was told. The most common problem is the charger not mating with the CL socket - comes loose sometimes.

I guess you need to explore your car a bit more.

- Yes, with engine off the power steering does not get power assist. Not required unless one is trying to do like Bangalore auto drivers - coasting down a slope with engine switched off
- Brakes will work, and properly - the brake system is not linked with engine running or not.
- One sometimes needs to use the rear-view cam with engine off. Typically, this is at a stop light with engine off, and one wants to check how much space one has behind to reverse the car if the guy in front is having a problem

Hope no one tries to coast with engine off to discover if brakes work!
