Ohh comon still your singing the 8401 song GTO504 is not bad either for good SQ on speaker/components infact he will have a potential amp with good tuning feature to power up a sub in his next upgrade.

Both the amps are good in their own fields. You cant compare them.it all depends on the kind of music you listen to and how you would like that music to sound.
I used the jbl 75.4 for my compos and the sub.No doubt it was really good for the subwoofer and provides ample power but it is the 8401 which gives cleaner power to the components.Do remember that 90% of the music spectrum will be played by the components and roughly only 10% will be played by the sub.So it is actually up to you to decide, which part of the system would you like to give more priority to-the components or the sub.
And its not like the 8401 cant provide enough power for the sub.
Try and audition a few setups before you decide!

So is it 8401 at the end ? I am 70% inclined on this for its performance and of course the pricing.

naaah. the gto504 is WAY better. the 604 is the entry level 4 channel amp from JBL and the kenwood is definitely better in SQ than the 604. also, even the blaupunkt 4 channel amp trumps the 604!

Frank, Man u confused me. Which one is better then ?

Is it like GTO504 > Kenwood 8401 > Balupunkt MKII > GT5 604 ?

in the SAME order you typed. see if you can spend some more, your polks deserve the 504! but your forthcoming sub needs something even better, so keep that in mind!

Thanks for the affirmation Franky.

I am thinking on saving some moolah for the nonce. The 8401 can power the current set up good IMHO. Not thinking of the sub right now. Will get a 2 channel amp later for that, if need persists

But on the other note, is the 8401 so incapable that it cant even run a sub ? May be some lowere powered subs ? It can pump in 180W which should be good for some sub, i think.

8401 does run the sub pretty fine,it won be hell loud, but you even wont feel the lack of bass.If you are SQ oriented and want a nice blending sub.8401 will serve the purpose for the price.

Then 8401 it is. No more vacialltion now.
Next step, help me with a nice deal now. Old, new. Just help me with the dealers names/addresses/phone numbers.

Also any suggestions for the Wiring kit ? Cheap yet no compromise on the performance.

1st hand experience it can shake all the body panels of an Alto with just 1 sub in ported box!

It is actually really decent and can run a lot of subs. You have the provision of increasing the gains from the amp to make your sub louder.

I have heard a rainbow hammer.id v3,bull audio sub, hertz 15" es380 and a ground zero sub.All of them sounded really good on the amp.But again my idea of a sub is for it to blend and provide a kick rather than go really loud, and boom.though the hertz sub and the rainbow sub were an exception where they became really loud.It is quite possible that due to their higher sensitivity, they were louder.

p.s: I was using the 8401 with a pioneer 305c and it could easily power the subwoofer.
