All major brands are about the same. What the manufacturers really skimp on the speakers. You may be much better off just upgrading these.

My lancer had a kenwood HU with 4 kenwood speakers. They offered us a Cd changer upgrade which was again Kenwood.

But I must say the cd changer and HU were really good sounding for the small speakers installed in the car.

Safari DICOR 3.0l EX used to come with Blaupunkt MP34 Monto Carlo / Bahamas HU. Speakers were 6" components in front, 6" co-ax rear. Speakers were not Blau but some other decent no-name OE speaker.

Not sure of the DVD player in the VX model.

My OPTRA came with Blaupunkt 5CD changer. According to sound gurus it's a very basic system.
I'm very happy with it. But of course I don't understand sound quality and all that.

Are you sure it's the components?

Also do they still give the same stereo in the new 2.2?

I think the new 2.2 has Alpine HU, but the stock speakers are the same old ones.

Didn't understand your first question though.

He meant if the car indeed had 6" components

I meant, are they 6" speakers or proper components with cross overs? and what speakers does the 2.2 have?

They are speakers i guess. There aren't any tweeters seperately in the safari. Atleast in the one i sat in.

I remember some editions of safari coming with subwoofers too.(the white ones?)

Also I have seen tweeters in doors on safaris. But component systems would be a great plus to those looking to buy the beast.

i have found the i10 & innova to have a pretty decent system, when compared to other OEMs. safari & innova does not have components but they do have tweeters.

scorpio is absolutely digusting in this regard. the HU is nippon, not worth a single penny. initially i thought its good as it reads CDs, SD cards, iPod & USB but then the sound quality (which matters the most) is terrible.
front speakers (no brand name) is below average & rear speakers (mahindra written over it!!!) mounted on the boot door is as large as your everyday chapati. {how do they expect this to be sufficient in this large cabin?} overall, poor ICE in the scorpio.

thankfully, the HU in the xylo (& refreshed scorpio) LOOKS better but again the placement of the tweeters is ridiculous.

6" (150mm) mid-bass + 0.75" tweeter, and yes it has a cross over. How else did you think the tweeter is fed? In-line XOs (like a capacitor in the tweeter) are also XOs, not only the ones in boxes.

* A separate mid-bass + tweeter set is "components" (also called "system" or "separates")
* If the tweeter is mounted in the place of the dust-cap of the mid-bass, that is called a "co-ax"
* If the tweeter mounted like that is removable, it is - in marketing lingo - "separables"
* A "cone-mounted tweeter" is an additional stiffer cone to more efficiently product high freq from the same VC. This is called a "whizzer-cone full-range". Most gratis dealer-installed "koi bhi achchha ispeaker laga do" speakers are always this type, even today (if you don't believe it, look closely in Indica taxis)
* And all of them are "speakers", which is a generic / colloquial term for anything that produces sound waves out of an electrical signal.

Just remembered that 2.2l VX has Alpine speakers and HU (DVD? don't know model) - has Alpine logo on the tweeter, which has a beige grill. Saw that at Concorde Motors on a VX on display.

Subwoofers? After-market, must be, not OE fitment. Where in the cabin did you see it fitted? Rear door / tailgate?

Update- Yes it does
