since no proof for pioneer, next in line will be JVC i guess. But then i have seen that with bill and warranty price of a 5000rs set goes to 11000rs!

Maybe JBL/HK/Infinity should buy out a HU company like Eclipse or Alpine.

I have my doubts if sony is very good at car audio.. Their home aproducts TV may be good.. Certainly not car ones..
All my friend who have a Wagon R, have a sony and all are unhappy about the Sony playback quality and reading issue..
One of my friends bound a really high end Jink-chack Sony model (dunno number!) and had the same issue mentioned here. Sony service could not repair this.
I have the Pioneer 7650, Blaupunkt speakers, and all the sony owners are impressed wit the quality of sound, and always plays a Moser Bear RW with out a hitch..

How do I know If it is genuine.... I dont know , It plays!!

I have heard about Sony's issues too but atleast feel that their marketing policy is legit. Maybe we should look at JVC or Kenwood who also have consistent marketing policies and maybe, just maybe their products are more reliable than Sonys.

BTW Sony's TVs and Audio equipment are not made in the same plant nor designed by the sme bunch of guys. In fact when Sony introduced their ES series of components in the US in the 80s the job was done by the Sony TV dept in Florida and not by Sony's Audio unit. I got the feel then that Sony knew that their audio unit did not deliver the same quality as their video unit. This was over 20 years ago.

Hi Sam, which low end system do you recommend? Since i am at the low end of the market what matters to me is CD reading capablility rather than sound quality, which i feel at that end of the market is same for all companies, atleast to my non-audiophile ears. I can barely make out 128kbps mp3 from audio CD, so minor differences in sound wont make a difference!

Hey TSK,

do not consider yourself as low end. The very fact that you're willing to shell out thrice the educated mans average monthly salary on a luxury, puts you pretty high up.

To some extent you arent wrong. If you're not a fanatic and just want to listen to some mp3s in the car... you could buy a sony, kenwood or jvc or blau. Buy with a bill + warranty.

Buy whatever you like, whichever sounds good to you and you can afford. I quite like the sony entry level mp3 player for the car, but not the sony speakers.

great. a $1000 HU this I gotta hear. Sam I am just as MAD. My 7385 (ampless tape HU in 1987) cost $600 in 1987and remember I am still dreaming about using tubes with an ipod. So I guess becker is just as MAD as me.

Sony is what i want to change from. The warranty on my sony expired about 2 months back, therefore i need to shell out 1900rs on just the lens. Since most dealers whom i visited opined that sony has CD reading issues and i should go for pioneer/JVC i am changing. Now Pioneer does not have authorized retail in india, that leaves only JVC/Kenwood. I am wondering wether these two will have CD reading issues after about a year of use?
