497 BS4 uses EGR. Was not aware of a 697 with EGR BS4.

Re: TATA Motors Buses (Standard Versions)

A short update, the new bus (LPO 1512TC) mentioned on post # 57 is giving a mileage of 3.4kmpl which is similar to it's predecessor (BS2 AL). It's been 10 days since the bus has been inducted and it seems there was a minor niggle with accelerator cable which has been sorted out.

Our BHPian Madhu's bus is getting built, we have requested for few pictures during construction stage, hopefully in a week's time we can get some updates.

Well I think you should mention that it runs as a city bus on a very crowded segment within Coimbatore city limits.
My previous AL BS2 too gave me a very good milage. The problem started with the AL BS3 Turbo ( 3.23 kmpl on the Coimbatore - Pollachi moffusil segment ).

Photos shall be uploaded once I receive them from AE

Awesome pictures, good to see that the cowl is aluminum and not fibre glass like most of the Busses found today

Yes, the cowl is not fibre glass, still some of the operators prefer them.
Basically the design is inspired from VDL Futura model (coach of the year 2012) and this is the first time the coach builder is working on this design (since we requested for this particular model alone), but there are already few buses with this design (Shillibear has also built this design)
Need to wait and see how it turns out.

Is this Aluminium? - do we such infrastructure to manufacture and maintain aluminium bodies/cowl?
I guess it should be MS only.

Are you sure its Aluminium? What type of welding was used? Welding aluminum is not a cheap and easy process.

Some food for thought!

Re: TATA Motors Buses (Standard Versions)

Can someone clarify this? Low HP engines from TML gives a better mileage compared to AshLeys Viking. So is this best suitable for City/Short distance intercity operations?

I was not sure of the material, hence didn't comment on that, will check it and update later.

Yes, in my opinion BS3 TATA 1512's are good in stop and go traffic since it provides a better mileage than AL BS3 counterpart. Those who shifted from AL BS2 to BS3 TATA 1512 are reporting better mileage (most of the cases, but one of them being almost same or negligible difference).
Just wait for a month, we will get a better idea/comparison in mofussil segment as well.

The front cowl is of Plain Galvanized sheet.

A person working in KerRTC also confirmed the same, as per the depot records new TATA1512Cs gives more milage than its AL counterpart, Not sure about the long term, but short term Tata1512c has cost advantage as chasis cost less and has better mileage.

Issue is with the new BS3 AL's.
BS2 AL was much better in mileage which made few operators to rebuild and use their old buses while few went on hunting/shopping for a well maintained BS2 AL instead of purchasing new BS3 AL's.
Some daring operators took a plunge and went a head with BS3 1512C's / 1612C's.
