Tata Motor's have launched the Xenon range of Pick-up LCVs to expand its portfolio in the commercial segment.
The Xenon has been made available in a 2-door / 2-seater Single-Cab variant, as well as a 4-door / 5-seater Dual Cab variant.
Price: (Ex-Showroom Thane)- Single Cab: Rs. 5.44 Lakh.
- Dual Cab: Rs. 6.34 Lakh.
Engine: (Both engines are BS-III complaint)- Xenon Pick-up Single Cab : 3.0L DI engine producing 72 BHP @ 3000 RPM and 223 Nm@1600-2200 RPM.
- Xenon Pick-up Dual Cab : 3.0L DiCOR engine producing 113 BHP @ 3000 RPM and 300 Nm @ 1800-2000 RPM.
High Points:- The Tata Xenon pick-up will now join Tata's existing RX pick-up, Super Ace and the Telcoline 4x4 in the segment.
- The Single Cab variant gets a chrome grill, body coloured bumpers, headlamp level adjustment along with wheel covers as standard. Power steering, dead pedal, 12v power outlet & tubeless tyres are also present.
- The Dual Cab variant gets HVAC, power windows, central locking with engine immobilizer, adjustable lumbar support on front seats and a limited slip differential.
- The 3.0L DI engine gives the Single Cab a 120 km/h top speed and 32% gradeability (ability to handle inclines).
- The 3.0L DiCOR engine of the Crew Cab has a maximum speed of 143 km/h and provides a similar gradeability of 32%.
- The Single Cab variant has the longest in-class cargo deck (2550x1675x415mm) with drop sides for easy loading & unloading. The Genio's deck is 35mm shorter but 15mm wider.
- The load body on the Crew Cab variant is (1430x1410x410 mm), and is loadable via the folding rear tailgate.
- Both variants have a two stage semi-eliptical leaf spring rear suspension.
- Tata Motors is offering a 3,00,000 km / 3 year warranty with a service interval of 15,000 kms for these vehicles.
- The Xenon will be available in 4 colours: Mineral Red, Arctic White, Arctic Silver and Arizona Blue.
- The pick-up segment crossed the 1 lakh units mark in the year 2011-12 and Tata Motors expects it to cross 1,50,000 units this year (a 40% YoY increase).
- Tata Motor's currently has about 20% market share in the pick-up segment and are expecting a growth this year with the introduction of this model.
- The Xenon pick-up's prime competitor is the Xylo-based Mahindra Genio (also available in single and dual cab variants)
- The Tata Xenon XT will continue to sell at a much higher price, despite it looking identical to the Xenon Crew Cab. However, it does have a different 2.2L VTT DiCOR engine under the hood, as well as ABS, Airbags and other additional features on the inside.
Tata Xenon Pick-Up (Single Cab):
Integrated wheel arches add to the muscular appeal of the vehicle. Silver stickers on the bumper look cheap, but reflectors on commercial vehicles are always welcome.
Chrome grill on the Xenon pick-up.
The load body gets side skirts for aesthetics. (Doesn't give it the typical high rise commercial vehicle look)
ORVM's are not body coloured, neither are the door handles.
The load body is visibly long, notice the wheel caps which are a standard fitment.
Rear suspension : Leaf springs.
Rear is typical LCV. The unlock levers are pretty easy to use. I could figure out how to use them at the first attempt.
The inside of the load body gets no lining, will be prone to scratches and therefore rusting.
Side opening for loading and unloading.
Arizona Blue.
Mineral Red.
Basic dashboard. Steering has tilt adjustment.
Manual window roll-down lever and bottle holder on the door pad
A large convenient dead pedal
Specification sheet:

The Xenon Crew / Dual Cab:
The Xenon Crew cab gets a black show grill & front fog lamps.
Visually identical to the Xenon XT (though lacking the XT's safety features and running a different engine)
Body coloured ORVM's and door handles.
The large TATA embossed rear end looks much better than the single cab version.
The rear tailgate flips down to a horizontal position, as opposed to the single cab which hangs downwards.
16" Alloy wheels.
No music system provided. Notice the power outlet below the HVAC controls and cup holders ahead of the gear stalk. The gear knob is unusually big and has a truck appeal to it. All 4 power window switches are behind the gear lever.
Door pad gets a red warning lamp.
Electrically adjustable ORVM controls are placed on the door pad.
Seats are of good quality for the segment. Not height adjustable though.
Notice the lumbar support adjustment for the driver's seat. The front passenger gets lumbar adjustment as well.
Flat rear bench can seat 3 easily. Rear passengers also get independent power window switches.
Specification sheet attached below
Thread moved from the Assembly Line to the Commercial Vehicles section. Thanks for sharing!
Looks quite promising, atleast the 3L DiCOR, Dual Cab one. I still remember having hard time to catch up with the test mule last year Sep 2011 while on way to Kaas. Was barely able to click it with it zipping past us. One could be on travel with it all year with the house packed in rear with proper. I won't be surprised to see a few making it to travelers hands and not seeing them as commercial transports.

Will it be available for personal registration?
The crew cab version should be available for personal registration. This will be a better option for those who find Xenon XT expensive.
How is the leg room in the rear seats? Also, is it available in 4x4 spec?
Just wondering what TATA was thinking When configuring Dual cab version .
If brochure is correct, the Single CAB gets Front Disk brakes but double cab gets no Disk brakes in front :Frustrati

Wow!!
This has really caught my attention :Shockked:
I cant believe it to be true.!
Can we expect official reviews or detailed ownership reviews ?
Atleast a comparo with the Thar.

I am sincerely hoping that this is a misprint with the brochure.!

This is exactly the thought which comes to my mind when i saw that price tag.
TATA can chop that load bay, reduce wheelbase considerably, make front end more Macho and make it cheaper, it will leave the THAR stranded.
DB sir is this the new vehicle you are working on to compete with Thar:D
Love the Dual Cab. I have something for pickup trucks.
A Black with ABS and protective lining on the loading bay would have made it even better.
Wow! So its just the 4x4 thats missing in the dual cab varient. It would have been a great offroader. :Frustrati
This will certainly kill the market for Xenon XT if at all there was any. Or may be a price correction on the XT sometime soon. However can anyone tell me if the GB is the same in both the DICOR and XT versions?
I like the look and feel. Having driving the Xenon XT, I know that its quite maneuverable in the traffic and hence shouldn't pose a problem. However rear bench space will remain an issue.
Cheers

The test mule seems to have a different engine badging? It reads 2.2 L. May be it was a Xenon XT itself?
