That is because Jet Privilege is actually Jet Privilege Pvt. Ltd. with the controlling stake of 51% with Etihad. At least for redeeming current & accrued JP Miles, they are relatively immune to Jet's current situation. The future could be catastrophic of course.

A bit off topic

All in all this jet story tells me one moral:

How corrupt the DGCA is!

From all the bad doings of Mr. Goyal coming to limelight now, tells me only one story and this is very frightening. They allowed one or more private organization(s) to meddle in their work and as the governing and regulating body they should have been neutral and unbiased towards all the operating airlines within this country.

If they were so lackluster and butterable with respect to airline regulations, how much of this attitude was a part of safety regulations too? How much of a disciplinary action was taken/is being taken on pilots caught failing the preflight alcohol checks? What about the pending crash/near crash (both aircraft and ground equipment wise) investigations?

Taxes collected on Tickets, I have stopped counting how many of those are added and where these are spent. Going forward, Government should have some sort of Insurance built in if there is nothing already. They cannot allow someone to open a business and then allow to simply windup with zero liability of public money. I am sure Mr. Goyal must have some funds to take care of him in future and it’s the normal guys - staff, vendors, customers and the Banks who will have to book the losses. Let’s see if he also remains overseas or comeback to India.

Not in favour of the govt. bailing out private enterprises. Brings out the whole new mess in the govt's finances, as they are already bailing out private citizens through loan waivers (pun intended).

That said, a better strategy would be for each private org. to built up a cash reserve to pay out their dues in case of bankruptcy, deposited with the RBI or any other govt. entity.

Interesting news to see Spice starting business class using what must be the Jet 737s. Will they already have been repainted to Spice livery by a domestic/foreign MRO?

Think they were painted in indian domestic MRO. See below

Jet Paint

Moreover seems like it's just a sticker job at the moment, since chances of jet returning are there.

How does that actually matter. Jet couldn't repay the loan so the plane is now being leased to Spice. Even if Jet is resurrected, they will not be eligible to ask for the same planes back. Kinda like you renting a house, moving out, a new tenant moving in and you then come back and claim to have a right to preferentially rent the house over the new tenant

Yes, it is a sticker job after patch up paint on the tail fin and fuselage.

VT-SYO is former Jetkonnect VT-SIZ( AKA Rajkot Express)
Here is how it looks currently with Spicejet as VT-SYO:

How it was when it was flying with Jetkonnect as VT-SIZ:

One of Jet's ex-737-800s that has been patched up and re-registered as VT-SYH with Spicejet:

It is also probably cheaper for Spicejet to fly these aircraft with just sticker jobs than a full repaint. They have a few Boeing 737-700/800/900s that are still flying without full Spicejet repaint...like this 737-700 VT-SLB "Asafoetida":

How has spicejet got these planes? Were these planes purchased from Jet Airways?

I imagine they are being sub-leased from 9W.

Experts can correct me here if i am wrong but here is how it goes.

Post default of jet on payments, these planes were re-possessed by leasing company, who got them de-registered from Jet / DGCA Afterwards. They are free to lease them to anybody in the world once these are de-registered. That's why they have got new registration numbers as well with spicejet.

Edit- Below link shows Air crafts fill registration history. It was leased from Avolon.

Naresh Goyal and wife stopped from leaving the country yesterday at Mumbai. He was supposedly travelling for a meeting with the executives of Etihad & Hinduja Group.

Hinduja group had expressed interest to invest in the defuct airline last week.

I think the venue country rang alarm bells. These days any defaulter going to London will be stopped, I guess! The Jet Brand Equity is very strong and it will certainly find buyers but at the right price.

The Jet brand is definitely strong, but given the loans involved, it only makes sense if the banks take a massive haircut, or you buy the business post bankruptcy. Taking over loans of a billion dollars and dues of about 2 billion dollars is uneconomical. At that price, it is cheaper to start a new airline from scratch.

First photo of ex Jet Airways Boeing 737-800 of Vistara has surfaced on social media. Hopefully it will be painted in Vistara livery soon
