This has me in splits.

If the correspondent or the over-enthusiastic insider from Force who wanted to plug in their scoop through team-bhp News had at least half the knowledge of how our forum works, he wouldn't have attempted this.

I'm still imagining the guy who shared the scoop with GTO refreshing the "News" thread on Team-bhp expecting to see his scoop and the headline to up. Happy refreshing baba!

re: Force Motor's next-gen monocoque bus, the T1N unveiled

Interesting vehicle. The current tempo traveller is the undisputed leader in it's segment. This vehicle may follow it's lead. It will have very good practical usage in ferrying office commuters inside the city where the distance involved is far less.

Erm.... Don't think so.

There is no compulsion for EV to be solely FWD.

And considering their customers, they wouldn't even dream of launching a non RWD version, especially not with the myriad variants that are to come.
The Matador was for license raj, and everyone knows where the Winger stands.

Rest assured, atleast if it is based on a Sprinter platform. It would be RWD.
Though, maybe for the EV, it maybe FWD

re: Force Motor's next-gen monocoque bus, the T1N unveiled

Had a 500 kms trip in a Tempo Traveller, over the weekend, the vehicle isn't comfy to sit in, seats are narrow, leg room isn't that good, refinement is just average or below average, ride is acceptable. Only saving grace was the driver who was very good. Ingress egress is cumbersome. It sounds like a city bus and there is always the diesel drone. I hope they up the refinement in this and seats aren't going to be comfy as they appear narrow in the pics.

re: Force Motor's next-gen monocoque bus, the T1N unveiled

So Force motors (Bajaj tempo) has finally moved from the first generation Mercedes van (Mercedes TN) that was discontinued in 2006 to the second generation (Mercedes Sprinter) that was discontinued in 2018.

See here: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mercedes-Benz_Sprinter

It's really odd that as old and common as the Force traveller is on Indian roads, it comes with a modern Mercedes diesel engine that is fitted even to Mercedes cars, although in different time and accessories.

Trivia:
The Germans trust Force motors so much, both Mercedes and BMW have partnerships with them for engine and gearbox assembly in India!

Err.. The Mercedes TN van (our Traveller) was made from 1977 till 1996.

The first generation Sprinter was from 1996 till 2000 (my fav, guess there a re a couple of RV versions in India).

Regarding the Force T1N, really don't know which one is Force using. The first gen Sprinter or the second one.?

You are correct.

The photos appear to show the test mule looking similar to a second generation sprinter.

I am curious why Force is bringing in this new van. As far I can tell, the traveller still has no real competition. Do the new crash test rules include a vehicle like the traveller?

Unlike the Bajajs (the two wheeler guys), Birlas (Ambassdor), Iyyengars (TVS), Munjals, Mahindras, and the Tatas, the Firodias wont learn. Hence they are trusted. Very much like Kirloskars (TKML) or Shriram (SIEL - Honda).

Tatas learnt most from Mercedes when they used to assemble sedans for M-B, around the time the Indica was launched. The strides in trucks are phenomenal.

Hindujas, of course, did most of it on their own, once Leyland exited.

Yeah, I remember Force even used to have German components in their tractor 'Balwan' (though it looked like an Escorts FarmTrac).

Looks quite decent both in and out (regardless of their extreme attempts at gaining free publicity).
Had seen the Shaktiman 200 in person a few days ago, and was wondering which way Force Motors was headed. It looked like a hideous offspring of a Tempo traveller and a Trump 40.
In comparison, the Traveller 4020 doesn't look bad at all.
Hope they invest a similar quantum of effort on sprucing up the Gurkha as well

Use parts from the bin. Even car makers think twice to re-design panels for models that sell fairly well. The EV version is not going to yet see that many numbers to justify a different design for that.

Here's a video of a walk around

From the video, fit and finish is almost car like and seems pretty good by Force standards!

Looking at the longer nose, wondering how did Force give up on that bit of cabin space that they could have got there ?

The only cabin space they could have got was for a door and a jump seat like the existing Traveller. If the engine bay was not this big, the transmission would protude into the cabin which would make the dashboard a mess like earlier and result in bad NVH. Hence by keeping the transaxle completely inside the engine bay, they got a chance to completely remodel the front portion and add an extra seat in between the driver and co passenger. Even the Mercedes Sprinter follows a similar layout and a dash. Though NVH is not car like, it is definitely not as bad as the current TT. The current TT has less of engine in the hood and more next to the driver. That is the biggest change in this version.
