that kind of bars wont be there in this minivan. even the roll cage which you are referring is according to the government norms. our maruti cars in that sense are the most unsafe. forget about rolling even if 2-3 coconuts fall on the roof it almost collapses.

Agree hence believe the new van designed to be used as a City commute and usage Van (rather than as a RTV - Rural Transport Vehicle) will be safe and will take the fight to Maurit Omni easily.

Great Scoop. This can be winner as many already said. Omni is aging and certainly needs competitor. I think it will be big hit in rural, semi-urban and will be able to replace those crude three wheelers which ferry 7-8 people. Cheers to Tata.
Team-bhpians should keep their eyes open with Auto expo so close there could be many interesting sightings.

Nice catch again, The vehicle looks to be bigger than the OMNI, from the rear lights it tends to be something consumer oriented rather than a commercial vehicle.
Seems TML is trying to make a design identity across models through the tower type light consoles like mercedes viano.

Those taillights really look upmarket. Something like a mini Mercedes Viano

The tail-lights look fab and carry recent TATA design cues...I hope the front is equally impressive...

Now this looks really promising.
Bigger tires fill the wheel wells well!

Though the market exists for such a vehicle, I am really not looking forward to this Tata launch. These body-styles are kind of suicidal on Indian roads. The dynamics are often tricky too.

I do wish Tata success in most of their ventures but this just doesn't look like the right way to go. I understand they are reusing the Ace's tooling and production line (perhaps) for this product and that reduces the production and engineering costs by a massive margin, I so wish they had give the "car" a hint of a bonnet. With a cross brace and an impact absorbent structure would have made it safer.

Other than thicker gauge metal, this might not be much safer than an Omni.

these kind of vehicles are the most successful ones in INDIA infact. Taxi, tour, big families, small business (people + skipping octroi and transporting material), village transport etc etc, the list will go long and long.

The roof seems too high - what happens to the centre of gravity. Hope it does not topple - like was common in the early days of Sumo.

The pricing will most likely be more than Omni but less than the Sumo Victa.

Also do you guys remember the van which M&M used to make in the 90s, I am not sure about its name.

I think you are referring Mahindra Voyager, built under a JV between MM & Mitsubishi.
