Re: Mahindra Navistar World Class Trucks launched

Almost all modern trucks have fully suspended cabins. The only extra thing in the Prima and Volvo are the suspended seats.

As for the thicker U bolts, even the Prima uses 20mm U-bolts, dont know about the thickness about the the leafs, though I know that they are thicker than those used on the standard range of Tata trucks.

Was recently at the launch of a new dealership for Navistar trucks in Pune.
Quite a large premises.
The owner is my distant cousin.

They had the tractor and the tipper model displayed.
Apart from the usual Mahindra small trucks and mini buses.

Must say, was quite impressed with the fit and finish of the big trucks.

Will be interesting to see the sales figures of the Navistar viz a viz the Primes.

MNAL's MN series of trucks are pitted against the AL U-truck series. TM Prima is in a higher level, akin to the Volvo FH/FM series. Cost, power and torque rating, features are all on the lower side compared to Prima, but comparable to U-trucks. The other contenders are AMW and MAN-Force

Ah! So I wasn't dreaming. I saw a similar Cowl at the yard of the Mahindra Dealer in Hosur - there were lots of "Navistar" front School buses from Mahindra, and one of these yellow coloured Cowl-Chassis.

Since it was early in the morning, I thought I might have been day dreaming - or it could be some Leyland/Tata chassis.

Thanks AshLey!

A very retrograde step I must say. The chassis will now get a wooden cab with a foot-long partition in the windshield.

Why doesn't the law step in to ensure proper and safe cabs? Who's keeping the truck body code in perpetual abeyance?

Also, why did MN they have to borrow the headlamps from Tata?

And why could'nt they change the grill? Keeping 2 different grills can at least differentiate between premium and not so premium offerings.

Nothing is premium here.
MNAL offered trucks with Cabs and where priced higher and so no much takers. In order to crack the market they are following the traditional way.
Actually you may notice Cowm option is available only in rigid haulage models.
The market have shifted to OE Cabs in Tippers and Tractor segments already.
So its we may need to wait for some more time for market to respond for Cabs in rigid haulages

Volkswagen eyes U.S. truckmaker Navistar stake!

Quote:
Volkswagen is in the early stages of examining whether to take a stake in U.S. truck and engine maker Navistar International to close the gap to rival Daimler, the Financial Times Deutschland reported on Sunday.

Navistar reported a second-quarter loss on Thursday, hit by a hefty charge for warranty costs related to engines built in 2010 and 2011, sending its shares down as much as 28 percent to their lowest since late 2008

Vertical Research Partners analyst Robert Wertheimer has named Volkswagen as a company that might be interested in bidding for Navistar

Re: Mahindra Navistar World Class Trucks launched

I was about to post this and you have made it right time.
So in near future we may see the indian arm being renamed as Mahindra Trucks and be a part of M&M?

Sorry to go slightlly off-topic:

I am just curious on the cab to cowl market shares.

Could you please indicate a rough % of OE built cabs to cowl models across all OEM's?

As far as my guess goes, it is about 80%(cowl) - 20%(cab) in rigid bodies and about 50-50% when it comes to tractors & tippers.

Cab Vs Cowl (approx fig)
Tipper - 75 : 25
Tractor - 75 : 25
Haulage - 10 : 90
