Wow, how much did tesla save by not putting a basic Digital speedo and a few warning lights? I'm guessing 10-20$ at max.
I guess its probably more of making a statement than the costs, but something as basic as this shouldn't be skimped on.

Next thing you know, because its autonomous, you can't adjust your seats as per your wish because you don't need to.

A couple of Tesla Model 3 “release candidates” have finally been caught in Tesla’s backyard in high-resolution pictures.

-Tesla Model 3 will come with up to 10 cameras for Autopilot
- The pair of 3s seen here look incredibly similar to the prototypes from the reveal
- The first Model 3s to be delivered will all be rear-wheel-drive examples
- The dual-motor, AWD 3s might just make it into the hands of owners by the end of 2017
-The Tesla Model 3 is expected to enter production this July with volume deliveries coming perhaps as soon as September
-Full pricing details should be announced on or around June 2ND.
-After the Model 3, Tesla focus will turn to the Model Y electric crossover based on the same platform as the 3.

Tesla factory gears up for Model 3!

Less than 3 months away from the planned start of Model 3 production, Tesla has received a massive order of robots for its production line. Hundreds of Kuka robots arrived at Tesla’s Fremont factory and are now being installed

This is inline with what Elon Musk has been describing as an ‘Alien Dreadnought’.

He emphasized that the first version of the Model 3 production line will only be a “version 0.5” of the “alien dreadnought”, but the line will get updated with more automation and he envisions a “version 3” in a few more years:

He says that Model S and X production move at about five centimeters per second on the line, but he sees an opportunity for a 20-fold increase in production speed for the Model 3 in Fremont – or “at least one meter per second.

By version 3, it won’t look like anything else. You can’t have people in the production line itself, otherwise you drop to people speed. So there will be no people in production process itself. People will maintain the machines, upgrade them, and deal with anomalies

An updated version of Model 3 release candidate spotted.

The last time we saw the blue Model 3 release candidate 2 weeks ago, it had holes in the front-end with wires coming out and a covered charge port door in the back.

This one spotted yesterday has a more production-looking finish and a new charge port door that is not completely blacked out like the last one.

But like the previous sighting, it also features the ‘Tesla’ badging front and rear – something the black release candidate didn’t have when it was first spotted last month.

Now a White TESLA MODEL 3 sighted.

For release candidate Tesla Model 3 electric cars, first there was black, then blue and now white.

The Tesla Model 3 sightings continue to become increasingly common. Here we get our first look at a Model 3 in white.

The final reveal of the Model 3 in full production form will take place sometime in July. Ahead of that, a small viewing party will get an up-close look at the Model 3 on June 2 and 3.

It looks like Tesla is ramping up testing on public roads for the Model 3 release candidate program. It makes the third prototype spotted testing in the Bay Area and another one was spotted in Cincinnati Friday night – the first sightings outside of California.

Tesla Model 3 to skip the beta testing phase and go directly to production " early release candidate.

For a conservative mind this might be thought to be a costly approach for for a disruptive mind this is to save millions of dollars - A gamble Elon Musk is willing to take.

The normal procedure for new cars implies the use of prototype tooling before switching to the final production tooling.

This allows the manufacturer to identify and fix potential issues in the design and quality of various parts or deal with problems in the assembly process. The idea is that these prototype tools are much cheaper than the permanent ones, meaning that any flaw that would make it past the beta testing period would translate in a big hole in the company's wallet.

Elon Musk is taking this gamble by putting all his faith into the "advanced analytical techniques" that the company used to simulate the production process and identify any potential imperfections. However, with over 500,000 units a year planned, any overlook could have a major impact on the company's finances.

But that's what Musk does: he takes risks. If his endeavor proves successful, then the humankind is in debt. It means he has pushed the boundaries of the way we do things once again, and Tesla deserves all the success it can get. If he's not, well, he'll probably find a way to turn it around

But the joke can continue. Mr. Musk plans to name one of his next vehicles, the Model Y, making the lineup, S-3-X-Y. That vehicle, slated to be a compact SUV,

The chief executive of the Silicon Valley auto maker thought it would be funny for the names of his vehicle models to spell out something cool. He had the Model S sedan and Model X sport-utility vehicle. But when it came to naming a new, cheaper car, the Model E, Ford Motor Co. blocked Tesla over trademark issues. So he instead went with Model 3, which is essentially a backwards “E.”

It’s a story he has told often, as Tesla prepares to bring out the Model 3, which will be its least expensive car, starting at $35,000. But it seems the choice is backfiring, as many customers think the Model 3 is the next version of a high-end Tesla car.

We have seen a belief among some that Model 3 is the newest and more advanced generation of Model S.
This is not correct. Model S will always have more range, more acceleration, more power, more passenger cargo room, more displays (two), and more customization choices, and Model S, X and 3 will all have equivalent Autopilot functionality

To add emphasis, he wrote, that the Model S “is the car I will keep driving even after Model 3 arrives

I think his recent comments are just a clever ploy to put a different spin on customers cancelling deposits for the Model3. Apparently there has been a 7% drop in Tesla's customer deposits. Musk is calling it customer confusion - I think its informed decisions. Customers are pulling out their money after getting a good glimpse of whats coming their way.

Get a look at the user interface of the center screen – almost… It does show that they are separating it into two sections with the first quarter closer to driver likely showing information normally shown on the instrument cluster.
