Re: Mahindra BE 6 Review

Someone earlier had said that the 'halo' design is optional, but I don't remember seeing anything about this in Mahindra's 2nd episode of the 'launch/unveil' drama. Did any of the lucky few who got the test drives check with the SA about this? If not, can someone please enquire? I'm sure there are many of us who feel that this was an unnecessary disturbance eating into the cabin space.

Re: Mahindra BE 6 Review

Test drove the BE6 today. The hype is all real, and it was truly brilliant to drive. Was only able to drive it for 15 minutes but here are my impressions:

Pros
  • The drive modes really make a difference. Race mode is fast, and I mean fast fast. Everyday still felt a bit too fast to me for city traffic, and range seems the most suited for Bengaluru city traffic. You can still effortlessly overtake in range mode BTW.
  • The sound system is seriously impressive. You can clearly see the sound envelop you and the speaker didn't distort even at high volumes. And this thing goes LOUD
  • The suspension felt good, need a bit longer drive to confirm it though. Especially on rear the suspension feels pretty good
  • The HUD is seriously useful. It shows even ADAS stuff, like if someone is coming from behind.
  • The 360 and rear camera resolution is pretty good
  • They got the software updated it seems over last couple of days and it felt pretty snappy to use. No bugs seen yet.

Cons
  • The rear seat won't be super comfortable for tall passengers. I'm 5'10 and while the legroom is there, the headroom for anyone taller than me would be a bit tight.
  • The boot isn't super big. It's big if you have smaller luggage, like medium size bags, then you can fit multiple. But if you have max size check in luggage, after fitting one you can't stack on top. And side room will need to fill with bags. Need to check more with some bags.
  • Karnataka tax over 25 lakhs hits pretty hard, unfortunately. And doesn't seem like we'll get pack 2 with 79kwh battery pack. So pack 3 it is, unfortunately.

With M&Ms past behaviour I suspect the pack 2 price will be the same as the current pack 3 price during the March reveal. This will be due to the pack 3 price seeing a steady price increase depending on the bookings they gather. This is their usual modus operandi.

Revealing pack 2 price now means lots of bookings they have to honour at that price. They clearly don’t want to. The best thing to do is who ever wants a VFM 59kw ESUV just book the pack 1. It’s the best VFM anyone could ask.

Re: Mahindra BE 6 Review

Could also be a wait and watch strategy as by then prices and booking numbers of competitor EVs will be out.
I feel the Pack 2 will be used to undercut competitor pricing

Pack3 price was just revealed in Jan. April start is about 2.5 months away and increasing prices in a 1-2 month after deliveries start will not resonate well with the customers. Pack2 is still a safe bet, as by March end deliveries of Pack3 would have happened and we would get to know software niggles and any EV related issue reported by first batch of customers. April beginning also gives sometime to actually look at BE6 and XEV9E on road and opportunity to get longer test drives to experience the car by March.
Most likely Mahindra knows people might opt for Pack2 if the price is revealed now and as a company Mahindra is trying to push top end Pack3 first so that early adopters can provide better word of mouth publicity for the new BEVs.

Mahindra did not provide any price protection for Thar Roxx. Most of bookings for Thar Roxx were for top end variants and Mahindra did not deliver lot of top end Roxx on time. As year changed, Mahindra increased price of top end by ₹50k in 3 months after bookings opened on 3rd October 2024.

Re: Mahindra BE 6 Review

BE6 has arrived at Sireesh Auto, near Silk Board Bangalore. We had a short test drive. Loved handling, but disappointed with Mahindra's approach of not sharing all the details of Pack-2 and not accepting bookings for Pack-1 & Pack-2. As Pack-3 is out of budget.
I also felt the fonts of HUD were blurred, could be a minor glitch or require some change in settings.

Looks like Sireesh auto in silk board has their hands full, no response to test drive request even after 3 calls !!

Re: Mahindra BE 6 Review

There is no mention of Pack 2 on Mahindra's website. Neither for the BE 6 nor for the XEV 9e. It just shows Pack One and Pack Three. Why is that?

Re: Mahindra BE 6 Review

Today I got to see the BE 6 and XEV 9e in person. And whoa! They definitely exceeded my expectations, and I'm going to book one of them for sure.
I did not get to drive the car yet, but below are my first impressions.

Exterior Appearance:
Based on photos and videos, I initially liked the exterior of the BE more than the XEV. People seemed to suggest that the XEV was a bit more bulky at the rear, and the photos also looked like that. But honestly, when I looked at the cars in person, I found both of them to be equally good. The XEV looked proportionate to me and is quite striking as well. I really did not find them to be overdesigned, as few people had suggested. I liked the alloy wheel design of the BE more. Overall, the exterior appearance of both cars is fantastic!

Interiors:
This is where my biggest opinion change happened after seeing the cars in person. I was expecting that I would not like the Halo and the drive selector on the BE 6. But in person, the interior of the BE was extremely striking. Even the rear AC console, which people mocked as being like a beard trimmer, actually looked fine in person. The steering, the cockpit feel, the door trims, and the seats, everything looked refreshing. The moment I stepped into another car after stepping out of the BE, the other cars looked so ancient! Even people who were there seemed to agree that the BE interior is very attractive. It's like nothing we have seen before, and for sure, any driving enthusiast will love it.
Coming to ingress and egress, I am 5'8", and it did not look like a problem at all. At times, my hair brushed the roof while getting in, but it's something to get used to. My 71-year-old mom also had no problems with getting in and getting out.
The XEV's interior looked more conventional after being in the BE; it was just like the XUV 700. The triple screen was neither an attraction nor a distraction. But, if you are looking for your EV to be a breath of fresh air, then the BE is it!

Rear Seat Comfort:
This is where the difference is between both cars. Simply, the BE 6 rear seat is maximum for 2 adults and 1 kid. There's not enough width for 3 adults. The knee and leg room are totally fine, and my crocs were able to slide under the front seat as well. The issue, however, is with under-thigh support – it's just at the level of other compact SUVs like the Brezza, etc. At 5'8", I was able to sit comfortably, but it's not the best. For example, the That Roxx has better under-thigh support and better width. However, I have checked out the Curve EV before, and I can say that the BE’s rear seat is better than the Curvv EV in both under thigh and width. I think for people under 5'8", the rear seats are definitely liveable and not a deal breaker unless you use this car for touring and with 5 adults. I even think 200 km, 300 km trips should be just fine. People taller than 6 feet should stick to the front seats. If I compare the rear seats of the BE 6 with my Ciaz, the Ciaz just about has similar under-thigh support – maybe 2 cm more than the BE, that's it. But the Ciaz has much wider seats, which are more comfortable for 3 persons at the back.
In comparison, the XEV's rear seat was an extravaganza. For my height, it was more than enough, and very wide as well. Rear seat comfort and space are the single biggest advantage the XEV has over the BE. Even 3 adults will be very, very comfortable.

Color Preferences:
The BE was available only in firestorm orange. And TBH, it was just amazing. I thought that this color might be too flashy, but in sunlight, it actually looks lighter and suits the car very well. For a car like the BE, this is definitely a signature color. It even goes well with the dark interior. I also managed to get a glimpse of the Desert Myst while I was driving back home, and it also appeared to suit the car. If I were to make a conservative choice, the Desert Myst would be the one I'll pick. But I am sure Firestorm Orange will sell a lot as well!
Coming to the XEV, it was available in Everest White and Tango Red. To my eyes, the white looked very good. The dual-tone finish also looked much better in white and black.

Which One Would I Go For:
I went with an open mind to look at both cars and see which one I would like. In my opinion, the BE 6 is the more striking and attractive proposition. I think for a city car or a second car, the BE 6 makes the best sense. I would buy the XEV only if I were to use it for long-distance touring or frequently seat 3 persons at the rear. So, my current mindset is to retain my 6-year-old Ciaz and just get the BE 6 for my daily commute and as a city car.

Re: Mahindra BE 6 Review

Does BE6 support single pedal driving mode? It should be a big boon in city traffic, and even otherwise too.

Another question about foam inside tires for noise reduction. I came across a BE6 video clip which actually showed how it looks like, and it got me thinking. It is just a thick strip of foam pasted inside the tire along its periphery. I am curious to know whether it is something that can be done after-market for any tire/car?

Yes,there is a dedicated button to enable one pedal driving. Or setting the regen to max should also enable it.

Re: Mahindra BE 6 Review

I saw the BE 6 from a distance and a bit disappointed. I thought it didn’t look like what we saw on videos. The gate was locked so couldn’t get a closer look.

These are the colors as per the sales person.
