TG, Thanks a lot for the compliment...! it's very encouraging to get comments from photography experts like you.

This is a fantastic shot. And not because of any effect or PP or technique. The most important aspect of any photo is composition, more than the gear, PP or subject. This photo is just superb because of just composition, it captures parental emotion to the max. A parent can really relate to the emotion behind the shot. Congrats!

@deetee: Need help. How do you upload the images with borders and also insert text above each of them. After reading the guide ad using the Manage Attachments option, I tried uploading some images and they turned out to look like they have been just dumped.

Awesome, you are really clever. You show this pic to your daughter few years later and I am sure she is going to love this.

Thank you very much for the appreciation....! Credit (of the composition) goes to my wife and I got to show this thread to her now... She always says I know how to operate the camera, but I dont know how to compose pictures, to which I never paid much attention to be frank.. but now, I have to admit what she was saying all the time... :Shockked:

And, I've to seriously think about teaching her the technical aspects and how to operate a DSLR!!!

You must teach her the technical side! I am doing that to my mother now and she is in love with photography. She accompanies me to all kinds of places. Here is one such image i clicked when we went together for a photowalk.
And this is not an HDR, its exposure blended.

This is an interesting concept...! I presume that's your mom holding the P&S. The flare from the sun has come out really well and attractive in your D700, but I could notice the vertical line along the sun in the image captured by the P&S - Heard that its the sensor's problem in many such cameras when capturing strong light.. Which lens was that in your cam?

I feel that exposure blending produces more natural sceneries than an HDR can.

Please post the EXIF for that shot. I am curious. Thanks. I guess, its the smaller aperture (about f16?) that makes the sun give that star like look. Right?

HellwratH, it is an exposure blended image, so there will be multiple shots with exposure variations but not the aperture (TG, correct me If I am wrong) And I don't think a smaller aperture can make the subject look smaller... may be in the case of sun, since a smaller aperutre cuts more light, the sun's actual border will be visible rather than an overexposed sun fully immersed in light in the surrounding areas as well.

TG: I am also curious to know how the star like flares came from the sun... is it PP or is it the lens?

I dont know why exactly the vertical line comes, maybe one of our experts could help us out! It comes in the lcd but doesnt come in her photographs.
I used my 14-24mm f2.8. Actually this image is a cropped version from this one, the original frame. The wide angle gives quite a lot of cropping options.

I took 2 clicks both with this setting mentioned below, but one with an EV compensation of +1. I too believe what clevermax mentioned is the case.

Camera: Nikon D700
Exposure: 0.04 sec (1/25)
Aperture: f/13.0
Focal Length: 14 mm
Exposure: -0.35
ISO Speed: 200

It comes while using higher aperture. If you don't want that use larger aperture (say f8 onwards). You may have to use a ND filter to compensate exposure.

I had read about this somewhere about smaller aperture giving that starry effect to sun/moon. Let me try and get the link.

Thanks for the clarification... Learned something new today. I seldom take pictures with narrow apertures.. like f/10 onwards to f/35 or so... need to experiment more with narrower apertures. I like the bokeh effect very much and and so I tend to use larger apertures and sometimes struggle to get the whole subject (like flowers) in focus because of the narrower DOF which comes along with a large aperture....! :Frustrati
