Extremely nice work. I think these pictures are indeed more suited to the theme photography thread.

Been out to Kokkre Bellur, near Maddur, yesterday (13-3, Saturday) after what had been (in my opinion) an inordinate duration of time not photographing.

Few things I discovered about Kokkre Bellur:

1. It derives its name from the omnipresent cranes
2. What cranes !! There are probably more cranes than leaves in trees there
3. The villagers respect the cranes and protect them. They have been taught that to endanger a crane is the equivalent of destroying their village (was told this by a boy there). I have never seen a better example of man-nature co-existing with mutual respect.
4. The cranes nest only within the rough geographical stretch of the village! Not a single crane if you inch past the village-limits.
5. The villagers care for injured/crippled cranes in an enclosure, for life. There are high-voltage lines passing close to the village and some cranes run into them and lose their ability to fly. The villagers nurse and care for such cranes in this enclosure permanently.
6. The village itself is the bird sanctuary.

Majestic wings-of-flight. I noticed them spread their wings while nesting and was told they do this to give shade to their hatchlings, although this fella was more likely showing off !

Thanks TG, I am still new to processing, need to learn littlebit more. My home PC screen has some issues i guess, this halo doesn't show there.

Preetam, Thanks, yes the image looks surreal in my work PC. I will get my monitor caliberated.

Used a P&S
Canon IXUS 900Ti

The 1st and 2nd shots are hand held, with support from a wall.
The third shot is taken with the camera placed on gravel where I parked the bike.

Thanks optimist. I am not sure I would have been able to go for a slower shutter speed as I wanted that DOF and it was broad day light. I don't have a ND filter yet, so I'll definitely give the slow shutter speed a try when I get my hands on one.

I agree about the reflection image.

Thanks Preetam. The funny thing is both the kum kum shot and my favorite (dad and daughter) shot were taken without looking into the viewfinder. Kum kum shot was tough as I am not tall enough to look into the vf and capture and the other one I just didn't want them to get camera conscious

BTW, where were these taken? I wanna go out tomorrow to shoot sunrise/sunset and I need a place that has a clean view of sunset. Any info will help me

Yes I got the Hummingbird picture from net. Added motion blur to its wings and tail. I should have reduced the bird's size relative to the flower.

Can you post the exif of the "splash" image please? Thanks.

You are shooting digital. Try out corrections a few overexposed in ps or gimp (free/gpl) to compensate for the lack of ND filter.

If I might get a good sunrise/sunset, I do not mind going a little outside the city. The only problem is I have a bike and the sun would literally flame me!
