if you want a super zoom why bother with a DSLR? You can get something like the Sony R1 (now discontinued) or the Fuji S100.

Sarkar, not mine, cousin's ! I will never buy a super duper zoom like that.

IF you can get a D40 with kit lens for 16-18k, I would said buy it.

No I don't think so. 1000D is a replacement for 400D as entry level camera as most camera review websites talk about. check out -

I think the kit lens is an 18-55 non IS lens :-)

My bad guys! stupid: Yes its a 18-55 non IS lens. I got it from "Fotocircle" in Bangalore. Costed me 26k with 2 Y warranty + the usual kit contents. Never had experience with DSLRs, so its fun playing around with it. I would highly recommend it as an intro DSLR!

I'm purchasing a new budget zoom lens and I'm a little bit confused here. I have two choices 1) Canon 55-250 IS and 2) Sigma 70-300 APO DG Macro. Which lens would you recommend based on image quality at both wide and tele ends? Also how is the 22-250 build quality against the Sigma?

Are there any other options in the same price range?

Successor to 400D was 450D and now 500D.

Any of you guys use printer at home to print photos?
How much is the running cost you incur while printing photos? Like toner replacement, photo papers etc.

I print photos at Rs.5 - 6 per copy at photo studios. Getting printer at home is cheaper than this?

If not cheaper than studio printing, what other advantages does it provide?

I thought of buying a photo printer and just pondered on the above questions. Couldn't find much info online.

no it is not cheaper but in case of an emergency the home printer is available.

On the same line, how reliable is printing-at-home compared to studios? I have a perception that the ink will fade out a lot faster than a studio print - am I right?

I use Online Digital Photo Printing India, Send Photos to India, Personalized Gifts, Free Digital Photo Printing India - Picsquare.com for printed copies. They charge 3 rs and very convenient.

It all depends on the ink. I know few printers here use custom inks which are supposed to last well over 15yrs but again it always depends on the conditions.

Real benefit of Studio prints is Calibrated work flow. One can get similar quality prints from cheap home printers but will need to calibrate lcd and printer.

Life for photos printed with inkjet is 100 years. At least this is what the printer manufacturers boast.

I would also suggest you to look at snapfish by HP. []Snapfish:Error Page

BTW, with shipping charges, it more or less comes to Rs.5 / print - right?
You have the convenience of ordering the prints from home though.

Those who are looking to buy new DSLR and searching this forum desperately, here is the offer I found in eBay.

You could find cheaper deal than this. But these two are with Canon/Nikon manufacturer warranty of 2 years.

There are offers for Canon 1000D and Nikon 3000D too for Rs.22390 and Rs.24590.
