I didn't say it will 'reverse' the effect, but there is no desired effect (cutting reflections) when you flip the CPL and use it. It's just a glass which cuts some light then - it can deprive you off by may be 1.5 stops, which it does when used in the normal direction as well.

You say 2 CPLs stacked together make an adjustable ND filter.
You also said that the hue will change and the image requires major RGB channel adjustments. So it is no longer a Neutral Density filter. It is then just a filter which will screw up the colors and cuts some light.

Any piece of glass/plastic at front will mess hue and Rgb channels, Its certainly not as bad as using uncalibrated LCD+Printer combo and if one knows what they are doing, its fairly easy to correct.

Guys, Hope you all know about solar eclipse on 15th of this month which can be viewed in/from south india. Im in bangalore and i guess there will be a lil eclipse which can be seen from BLR too. As this is the DSLR thread, how can i take picture of the eclipse without frying camera sensors. i have 1000D and i dont wanna buy any filters for 5 minute eclipse. so can someone tell me any type of DIY so that i can picturise the esclipse (SUN) ?

How about keeping 1-2 x-ray films n capturing? will it work?

I dont wanna be a guinea pig here, so only tried and tested comments please :D

They have quite few guides on how to do it and are very good.

Also prepare yourself early for the kind of shots you want and appropriate lenses, e.g. for following thirds with just sun as the subject one would need around 700mm range.

you can make it with various things like old Xray film, exposed camera films etc.

apart from that, here is what I did:
made a small hole in a cardboard and placed it on a mirror. put the mirror in sun and directed the the sunlight inside the house thru this set up. Got a clean image of sun along with accompanying clouds. try it, it's fun watching the eclipse sitting on a sofa in your house. do it beforehand to test the set up, you should see a complete sun. you can easily make a video of this.

Hi, I am confused between the 1000D and the 500D. Any suggestions? I do not have any video capturing needs, and this is going to be my first DSLR.
I was contemplating the 1000D with the IS lens, but a lot of people seem to be suggesting that it is hardly an upgrade from point and shoot cameras.

Hey congratulations from your speaking instruction manual (arrghhh...!) BTW where is that much anticipated first picture?

Alpha 200/230 is a great entry level DSLR. Get an old Minolta glass too and you have a wonderful setup with minimal spending. Wishing you so many happy clicks with it.

People going to argue with me but i suggest leave both aside and get a 450D if you want to go Canon way and spend rest of the money on the lenses.

Just from a P&S is huge, doesnt matter what is everyone saying. Biggest change is the response time, doesnt matter what kind of P&S there is always a delay in taking a picture while DSLR's have almost no delay (i say almost not no). Then comes the ability to go Wide and Ultra Wide angle lenses and obviously the ability for faster lenses. Then the ability to add a grip and increase battery life significantly on the go. There are other things which are quite obvious when you go from a P&S to DSLR.
