Perfect. There are two types of standard reflectors for studio flash. One with plain mat white coating and the other one with hammer tone specular shiny coating. Output difference is more than two stops. |
Rudra-da - hammer tone reflectors are made specifically for flash systems and street lighting. If you notice these reflectors are curve-shaped and not flat like the white matt.
White matt gives more diffused light (which is maybe why diffusers are made of white matt), brightened (chemically) aluminum (when moulded into a parabola) gives a more fucussed and specular light. But the TOTAL reflectivilty of both is about the same. The difference lies in the SPECULAR and DIFFUSED reflectivity numbers (quotients).
The ISLE (
indian society of lighting engineers) has some papers available on this subject. I dont remember all the details. Man I am getting old. Used to be, I could read something once and remember it for many years.

That's why I said crumpled aluminum (then flatten) foil for inside.

Exactly. You just DIYed hammer finish! :D
OT: I was looking for a super portable compact that would fit somewhere between my Canon S90 and the Canon 40D DSLR.
Option 1; Canon SX1, Sony HX1, Fuji S200/HS10 etc..so similar 1/2kg (500gm), 20x zoom with 1/2.5" or 1/1.6" sensor
Option2: Oly PEN or Panny GF1 with 14-150 lens.
What stumped me was that the 4/3rd lenses are as expensive as simialr FF lenses. Oly's 35-100/2.0 or 14-35/2.0 lenses for example costs more than a Canon 70-200/2.8 IS or 28-70/2.8 IS. This is found almost without exception. Why? I figured smaller lenses (4/3rd lenses are smaller than FF lenses) would be cheaper. The Pen+lens combo is about $1000 vs $500 for a SX1/HF10.
Now which is more portable? A SX1 (or one of it's peers) or the PEN (
Olympus - E-PL1) with a 14-150mm (
Olympus - M.ZUIKO DIGITAL ED 14-150mm 1:4.0-5.6) ? The PEN weighs about 300gms the lens weighs another 300 gm while the SX1 / HF10 weigh in in at about 600gms.

What price does the Canon 1000d & 500d retail at currently? Would prefer with warranty.
Good place to source from in Mumbai?
I own a D300 and have the following lenses in my kit:
1. Nikon AF Zoom-Nikkor 35-70mm f/3.3-4.5
2. Nikon AF-S DX Zoom-Nikkor 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6G IF-ED
3. Nikon AF-S VR Zoom-Nikkor 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6G IF-ED
Sometime soon & in the near future I shall be going for a FX body and don't want to keep a DX lens. Planning to exchange Lens #:2 for a normal one.
Your suggestions please?

Hi all,
I have a alpha 230 and i am planning to buy a flash gun for my camera, Question is, is there any compatibility issue with a flash gun as there are a lot of flash guns for sale near by. Sony minolta systems are very rare so just wanted to know.

I have heard/read that if there are voltage issues (esp with older flashes) it can fry your camera. So, I haven't tried to mount anything on my camera and have been happy with off camera flash so far. So, make sure that you use the right flash or you might end up frying your camera.
Hi guys,
Planning on getting Nikon D3000 soon. Any idea how much is it going for these days? The site says it retails for 31k with kit lens.
Also, review sites say there is no bundled SD card. How much would that cost me if I were to get a 8GB one? or a 4GB one?

Want to get myself a film SLR, whats a good nikon SLR, One which isn't (only)full manual? |
Got a F100 & a 50mm in July last. Yesterday, my digital soapbox died so will need to use this for the indoor group snaps I normally need to take. But 50mm isn't quite good for the purpose, some times I wish it were possible to move walls. Saw two used lens , one was Nikon 20mm manual and a Tokina 20-35. Which one would be better for the purpose, any suggestions? (I don't have a problem with a manual focus lense but guess it'd be good to have one that can autofocus)
Also,

Full HD video south of 800$... Now that's called a game changer. Everybody expected a 60D, and canon did pull a near surprise!

Hope you are referring to Canon 550D a.k.a. Rebel T2i.
Of course, I am referring to 550D. I am saying, people were expecting a 60D announcement on monday, but canon pulled a surprise!

Since both your lenses are F/4+ how about a fast prime? 35/2 + 85/1.8 combo?
Navin, I've zeroed on Nikon 50mm f/1.8 D, undecided on Nikon 50mm f/1.4 G and exploring 17-55 from Nikon, Sigma & Tamron.
Your take?
