True Samurai. And the best part is the feelings that a good photograph can evoke in us. The excitement when I load my pictures from my camera on to the computer is that of a kid opening his christmas gift. And more so for me (luckily), because I can't see the end result properly due to the smaller lcd on my camera. Helps me think about my shot as well as how I can compose it better the next time (even though it'll take a week for me to do it). Ah, but when I get to see a well composed picture and the happiness it brings to me, it just cannot be expressed in words :). Photography has changed my habits of being lazy. I think weekends are the only days that I get up at 5 in the morning and go out to meet other photogs who share the same passion. It is Sweet! :)

Can it be explained to noobs in simple words , if yes please feel free to do so :D

Regarding the discussion on technology I found an interesting link

‘This lens is soft’ and other myths | DigitalPixels.net - Photography Blog

Lens micro-calibration is usually available in high end cameras but interestingly it is available in Pentax Kx which is cheapest of the lot.

As I wrote on this thread i was almost about to buy a Canon 500D but postponed the purchase as I was tied up with work in Dec and Jan and now it is time again to make the purchase. Don't blast me but DSLR is not a necessity but a hobby which I think I will pursue :-) so few months delay does not change anything for me

More I am reading about Pentax Kx more I am inclined to buy ( through some one coming back from USA). Does the good low light performance good 55-300 kit lens , In body image stabilization make it worth purchasing despite all odds ?

Would it be stupid to go for this considering no support and user base for Pentax here and possibly no way to get it cleaned / repaired in case there is a need ? I am not so worried about lens purchase in future though as they may come the same way camera will land here.

I've been very silently reading all that has transpired in the previous posts - hot pixels, cold pixels, defective pixels, ADCs (the only ADC I know is that of COAS) & DACs etc.

To be honest it has led nowhere and has not left any of amateurs, serious, semi-professionals any more enlightened than they have been.

I'm no where in the league of Rudra, Samurai, Tanveer, Mukul or others out here when taking photographs. But I love photography. I love the pictures that I take. As long as I enjoy and love my work I don't care much about what others say unless it is related to better composition, better angle and better technique.

99% of the readers here love to show their skill, get tips on improvement and enjoy. Very few, read, very few are in the business of taking big printouts for professional reasons and it is they who have to produce a flawless picture. It is for them the hot pixels, dust on sensor, WB etc., that matters. The others are very happy showing off their pictures on digital tablets or comps.

Let us keep it simple and not get into any slanging match.

My two cents...

GD, I agree everything what you said but not the 'dust on sensor' part:). It affects even a learner like me. Any aperture value within 22 to 32 I find the dust highlighted so badly. I know how I invited this dust trouble myself: changing between kit lens and the zoom lens in the beaches, dusty atmosphere etc. But I already got an idea what is to be done, getting a lens cleaning kit should do the trick, which I am awaiting by weekend.

Dust on your camera's sensor irritates you right? Just think about how irritating it would be if you always see such things in your actual vision? Well, in my case it is true as I have floaters in both my eyes - very irritating when I am outside in broad daylight. I always see some weird half opaque shapes floating around in my vision. It creates a vision exactly like some fungus or dust stuck on the sensor creates, becomes very evident when I look at plain wall or sky.

Coming to the point, you can use patch tool in PS to easily get rid of these dust spots. quick heal brush is kind of easy but patch tool gives you more control over the process.

I had this dead-pixel/dust kind of problem with my pics. I couldn't clone it out using Photoshop either. Finally, I went totally low-tech. I used my finger and scratched on the computer screen. That fixed the problem, the dust particle went away.

Clever, I am googling to understand what are these floaters.

That was hilarious ! In that case, I have gone much lower than your level, I not only scratched the screen but also my head, bottom and even my table, but didnt solve the issue. Also I have a habit of resizing the image and moving it around my 18.5" PC screen, so that I know its a fixed dot in the image itself. :)

You're not alone buddy. I have the same problem. But I thought everyone had these floaters and didn't bother much. But I've learned to open up the aperture and see things beyond these floaters :D.

Shaju,

Dust on your sensor will cause it to appear on the same parts of your image every time. I think you can create an action that can be run to clone these out and use it everytime you open the image. I am not sure on how we can create these actions, I think they can be recorded like you record a macro in excel. Give it a shot as a temporary fix.

So we have another floater, getting curious to find what it is all about ! Btw, my temporary fix is 'not touching the camera until weekend' (need to step out and get some cleaning kit asap !):thumbs up

I have the same issue. You clean my retina and i clean yours, what say? :D

Edit: So hellwrath is also a member of floaters club!

I'm sure there are many with such a kind of problem apart from us three. Too bad our sensor's can't be cleaned.

Wow... I thought this was a rare problem. Now little bit relieved. I hope you guys are not talking about the white cell like dots which everyone see when they look up in the sky and white walls. These are either blood or protein coagulation inside the jelly like transparent fluid in our eye, called vitreous humor.

Clever, hope you are not leading another topic of debate !:) Fortunately I dont find any floater so far, although my right eye is over -14 and left eye -3.75 !!:Frustrati

While searching I found tons of materials and videos on the sensor cleaning part. Everyone strictly warns : Dont even attempt to clean it yourself unless you have the right tools, wipes and liquids. So, that makes me wait for my kit to arrive. Dust issue is reported to be frequent with people who interchange lenses every now and then.

@shaju: There is a best way to interchange lenses, which causes minimum dust entering the body, you can see some videos of it in youtube. Some guys do it so fast!

There is nothing to debate over the floaters stuff, as I've been doing some research on this when I started getting these few years back and I consulted two popular eye specialists and they told me the same thing. :D

My camera sensor is as filthy as probably you can imagine. I don't blame it. Continues shooting and changing lenses are unavoidable in my case. My camera has to go to CANON for sensor cleaning as soon as possible.

Let me show you guys something. Please don't have heart attack. First image is the cropped one from original image to show the sky area. Second image is the full frame of the same. Straight TIFF conversion from RAW without any correction. This is one of the shot for Punto I shot last week. This shot was for the brightest part of the car like headlamps and grills and alloys.

Massive dynamic range has nothing to do with my shooting but the camera's output.
