LOL no art here folks. You won't find any VR in ultra wide angles, because these are primarily landscape lenses, and in low light are used on a tripod. Even handheld, with low light you can shoot 1/focal length that gives you about 1/15 shutter speeds without blur.
Even in twilight you can manage 1/15 with ISO 800 or so.
However at longer focal lenghts once light starts fading, maintaining 1/focal length becomes impossible unless you really crank up ISO

But yes, the question is valid, I feel that IS is not required in a wide angle as you require it in a Zoom lens. its very easy to get a steady shot at wide angle. Please correct me if I am wrong

Yes I second that. I have shot 1/12 to 1/10 with my Tokina 12-24 at 12mm without any problems. VR/IS is not really required at these focal lengths. Just look at the Nikon 14-24 2.8. It has no VR as these focal lengths don't really need it.

I was just pulling tanveer's leg. There are people using even 18-55 non-VR lenses (not forgetting the non-vr version of 70-300 from sigma and nikon) and getting very striking images. Its all about skill that comes by practice.

Tanveer, do you use CPL on your landscape lenses to get that dark blue or clearer cloud as seen in some of your facebook album shots ? I could have asked this question there, but thought if it helps someone else, why not here. :)

D3000 and 1000D, both are equally good and 99% of reviews/comparos suggest to handle them cameras and choose one which you feel comfortable with. If going for the 1000D, try to go for IS lens. D3000 comes with VR lens (Nikon speak for IS). I was in the same dilemma a few weeks back. Now working on getting my budget up, to get a 500D :D

Sorry for replying Late - An Enfield and a SLR can really push to you to make some crazy plans - was recuperating from the ride.

Angel Foto is situated in Fort - when u get out of the CST in Mumbai, turn left, walk straight up (or ask for camera shops in general), near the Varke shop (on the left - Cam repairs) ask for Angel Foto (not Photo). You may also ask for ICICI ATM (which is now closed). From the main road when you go in the gully, the road turns right and the shop is situated immediatly to the left.

You may wish to enquire around before going there. I got the best rate there on that day (I have heard these fluctuate by the hour.).

Yup, the shots are with polarizer on. They were taken with 18-55
But now that I have the wide angle, no more polarizers for me. they are not good when used on an ultrawide as the color of sky will change across the frame.
So with the tamron, it will be Graduated ND filter for me.

My home PC having all my pics is long dead and buried. But I do have a few old shots on my office PC when I initially bought the lens from Canoga camera 4 years ago. These are really nothing shots but are shot wide open and with shutter speeds of around 1/12 to justify that you don't really need IS/VR at these focal lengths. Also there is no sharpening or any kind of processing done to these except maybe color or contrast correction.
