roy_libran, the guys who were handling the dSLRs, were they seasoned dSLR users? Did they use RAW, did they shoot in non-auto mode? One can't compare dSLR to a P&S that easily.

teknophobia, Olympus e-420 is not a mirco 4/3 camera, it is a regular 4/3 camera. The sensor size of micro 4/3 is same as regular 4/3.

Raj, add Nikon D3000, 5000 and D90 to your list, you can review all of them for a month, by that time there will be a new launch announcement from Nikon. (Rumours going around that D90 is to be stopped soon replaced by a 39 focus point DSLR with upgraded features). My friends in US commented D90 is not in stock with many retailers, could be Nikon trying to clear off the stocks. Also you can connect the drop in prices in the last 3 months.

Used D90 body will be available for a 30-32k range, infact its already available.

It was kind of an exercise to find out whose camera was best :-) All were pretty much in a similar price range +/- 100 GBP.

How was the output comapred. I usually use my PS3 and LCD TV to see the outputs and at 40"+ (42",46",52" etc) most P&S cant compete with a DSLR's output especially when you zoom into one part of the photo like a face. A 17-20" computer screen might not be as discerning unless you are cropping a lot.

Hey Guys !!!I have just purchased 1000D. I am trying to click fast moving objects in sports mode. However, all pics are shaky .... how do i get pics of fast moving objects. How exactly does the sports mode works?

Seems you do not have IS lens , So either use a tripod or Use manual settings , Shutter speed more then double of focal length and widest possible aperture depending on light increase the ISO to 800 if light is less

I use the same trick on my non OS Sigma 70-300 APO lens.

The preset modes are nearly useless with non IS/OS/VR lens.

@ Abbas

If you have bought your 1000D from India your kit lens wont be having IS and i guess that's why your pics aren't sharp even in sports mode as your expecting them to be.

Try and try till you succeed my friend, it will take some time to keep your hands steady but you will get a clean shot soon.

Not a good deal. You will get a 1000D kit for slightly more price.

Thanks for the reply Tsk. Yesterday, I went to check the 1000D, unfortunately it felt really cheap, plasticy feel and rattles if you handle it little tightly. I really doubt the build quality of this camera. Also, price of the thing was around $600 without any additional accessories. :Shockked:

Any other option, that comes to your mind? I checked the amazon website the Leica lens that comes with Lumix L1 costs about $900. I expect that glass to be seriously good or am I missing something here! Any opinions on the same?

he must have meant a 1000D of the same age as the other camera in question.

If you want to dive into 4 thirds format, you can get a newer body for similar price.

Remember, noise performance of the smaller 4/3 sensor is not as good as APS/C
400$ is too much money to pay for such a old camera

BTW 1000D with kit IS lens is 550$ in canada
Canon EOS Rebel XS 10.1MP Digital SLR Camera with EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS Lens (Black): Amazon.ca: Electronics

Also I have heard that people buy from Amazon usa and pay 5$ shipping to get items in canada as prices are a low lower

hmmm... all right. Does this 4/3 system has any significant advantages or just another marketing tool? I can get cheaper options on amazon.com instead of amazon.ca because some items are not shipped outside USA and I move back and forth between US and Canada a lot.

Anyway, thanks for your advice, I look forward to you guys with some more of my noob questions. :thumbs up

The price at Amazon.ca has gone up! It was $479 sometime back. Am sure the sale would return. And no you cannot get most electronics from amazon.com - even if you do, there are taxes and customs waiting for you at the border. Check photoprice.ca for prices on photo equipment in canada

Guys, Need help. I'm planning to buy canon 55-250 IS lens online as the cost in the blr market is close to 14K.

J.J mehta's link :
http://www.jjmehta.com/webshop/index.html?target=dept_52.html〈=en-us
J.J mehta's listing on eBay :

eBay India: Canon EF-S 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS DSLR Lens (item 130387643925 end time 04-May-2010 15:54:10 IST)

Want to know if I can blindly buy the lens online without checking as I need to buy ASAP and can this be trusted.
Another thing here is the this guy has listed in his website as 1 year warranty and on eBay as 2 year warranty for the same lens.
Can I go ahead and buy it from Ebay?

As per canon official price-list, the price of 55-250 is 12,075. No point in buying online IMO.
