Man you are talking about stuff worth 80K. As a beginner neither can I justify such an investment nor can I exploit the maximum out of it. In fact I would not mind a 18-55 and another 55-200 zoom lens(sometime later).

I understand. I guess you should look at a Canon camera with the 18-55 and the 55-250 lenses which will give you a good start. The range covers you from 18mm to 250mm and the 55-250 does excellent job.

Thanks of this image and info on this body. Also heard that sony has introduced a newer body A33 I think with translucent mirror so that FPS can be much higher and there is no mirror movement.
Well the explanation was with reference to the live view in cameras in his list ( D3100 , 1000D and 500D and probably D90 .

Yes, they are the DSLT cameras.. very similar to DSLRs but higher fps and no moving mirror. SLT cameras existed in the past and this is the digital variant of them.

I wonder how many even consider these here in India while looking for a DSLR camera... I know Bhpian nuttynair drifted away from 1000D and bought A290 with 18-55 and 55-200 lens - an unopened fresh pack - all for just 30K.

Hi! I am thinking of buying the Slingshot 202 AW camera bag from Lowepro. This is to accommodate a Nikon D90 camera, a 28-80 Nikon lens, a 55-200 Nikon lens, a Slik F 153 tripod measuring 520 mm & a Canon Powershot A650 IS camera. At an MRP of 4.9K, is this an ok choice?
I am also wondering whether I should fit a filter to the lenses. If yes, should I buy the Nikon Neutral Colour NC filter or the Hoya HMC filter? I believe both are priced around 1K.
My sincerest thanks in advance.

Personally i use a filter as mere protection while carrying the camera or lens. While shooting i will remove the filters. The same does not apply for specialist filters to shoot those long exposure shots where the gradience helps. But for protection i use the cheapest filter available knowing when it breaks, i can just replace.

Waiting for my new lens:

Wow! How much did this baby cost you? And out of curiosity why the focal length of 105mm? I also noticed the Aperture setting ring. Awesome.

That is a nice lens GD Sir, capable of bringing one many a satisfied smiles, both macro and portrait, congratulations :)

@TON
Generally ~100mm is considered to be a good working focal length for macro, 35 or 50 gets way too close at times and 200 etc. are usually prohibitively costlier for normal usage.

Wow! How good is it as a portrait lens or one need to have a dedicated portrait lens.

Isn't this a discontinued lens, bought it second hand?

Excellent explanation for Auto focus points and DOF preview buttons. Thanks.

Oxyzen If you just intend to always use live view then there is no point in buying a DSLR you should acutally buy ligheter , more compact mirrorless APS-C Cam like Sony NEX3 or NEX5. The advantage of DSLR is optical view finder which enables faster focussing and optical view finder allows you to see the image through the lens even in the harshest sun whcih is a constraint for live view.

Will consider Nex 3 as well.
But the question is will I be having the same flexibility in adjusting aperture/shutter speed/focus/iso etc. Or will it be like a PnS?

Image quality will be similar even from 1000D as it is more dependent on lens and photographer rather then the body.

Even with 4MP less and a smaller sensor?

Well in your initial post you cited Video as a requirement.

No no, I said video is not important. Anyway why would I buy a DSLR to shoot videos? An occasional 1 or 2 clips here and there is OK but can even live without it.

Why exactly it sucks ? Again if you want to use LCD like P&S camera better buy EVIL , Lighter , compact and pocket friendly

The main requirement to have a bigger LCD is for playback function. To judge whether the image is OK as per my liking or needs a retry. And if you are suggesting EVIL, should I wait for Canon and Nikon to come up with these?

If money is no problem then no need to compromise buy best possible body and best lens but if you have X amount then you need to think how best to spend it.

Well this is hotly debated point , but the answer is yes lets say you have a 1000D with a good lens lu will get better pictures then with good body with mediocre lens.

As you are keen on macro buying a dedicated good 1:1 macro lens in 90-105 mm focal length makes more sense if you have a certain budget limit. So lets say 22K for 1000D and 19K for macro lens.

More number of megapixels help you to crop image and also to print big size images but you can use scaling algorithms in post processing to scale up for larger print size.

If you are interested in bird pictures and telephoto then I will suggest Canon 500D because 1000D does not have spot metering and also in tele range you will need more cropping. And a tele beyond 300mm is way too expensive then budget range you are putting up.

This baby hasn't costed me any at the moment. I mentioned I'm waiting. Shall come after 2-3 days. This is one of the famed Micro (macro) lens series from Nikon - 60mm, 85mm, 105mm & the 200mm

Yes the D series lenses have aperture ring. The G series don't

Thank you aburagohain. This is an excellent macro and portrait lens.

This is a very good portrait lens as well. If you take a dedicated portrait lens like the 35mm or the 50mm, you'll have to get very close to the subject if you have to take a macro shot. This 105mm gives you the distance.

Nikon has discontinued production but new ones are available from the existing stock. I'm getting a new piece.

the last time i used a Aperture ring was on my Dad's Nikon FG-20 that i used to use with a 35-70mm lens. had to be really careful with flash photography on that; wrong setting and the frame will be a washout! :D

thing have changed so much after that!

Guruji, too much f2.8 ho gaya - badhai ho. ab gurgaon meat toh banti hai! :)

Not for regular usage but one of the best rectilinear corrected lens.. 14mm, 2.8L. Expensive for sure but returns every paisa back.

Shot with 5D Mark II and 180mm, 3.5L macro.

And here's the 180mm, 3.5L macro. Heaviest black lens from Canon's stable..
