True and that is what is world of extreme macros , If you stack a lens reversed over another to get 5X+ you still get same kind of working distance with vignetting with a much bulky setup. Try out 50mm reversed coupled to 250mm. for 5X.

Yes you do, but they do not mount on to the Alphas!

Not able to decide whether to go for one of the current full frames or wait for the top apsc with EVF that is due supposedly; so waiting as of now as going full would mean I need to look at alternatives for two of my lenses.

Well this is primary Canon Warranty of 2 Years ( In your case 3 months extra till march don't know why and how) in the offer there is one year extended warranty over and above.
At-least the guy who purchases says this , I again called him up after seeing your post. He got warranty card for 2 years and something assuring 1 year extended warranty under the chroma offer of 14 Feb 2011.

Sony FF is fantastic. They have the Zeiss 16-35 f/2.8, 24-70 f/2.8 and now the sigma 12-24 becomes OS enabled.

Imagine having the fastest lenses from 12mm to 70mm that are also Anti Shake. There are 70-200 too from sigma that is fantastic.

I say Alpha is the way to go for Full Frame :) Ready to face the bricks thrown by others :)

Is this something like a thirda party warranty. Not directly from canon but a warranty from a third party who will do the service and replacement in case of any issues?

I am finally going for a D90 (having decided that D7000 will be an overkill right now). Can someone suggest a good additional lens above the 18-105 f 3.5-5.6 kit? My budget would be roughly 25k.

I am inclined to go for a 50mm f1.4 or 1.8 and/or a 70-300 f3.5-5.6.

I have been using a 12x superzoom (Canon S3IS) for a while and would find it difficult to live without decent zoom.

I would say start with the D90 and the 50mm F1.4. The learning curve with having a simple prime lens will be much faster as you will be forced to find a way to take pictures improving your composition and "patience" and in turn help you decide what you want.

In the mean time you can still carry the 12X zoom while learning. :)

I agree with VW2010, start with 50mm f1.4 and I would add 35mm f1.8.

Deciding between 50 f1.8 and f1.4 is simple:
1. f1.4 - if you think you will be shooting in low light conditions wide open.
2. f1.4 - if you prefer the bokeh of this lens over the f1.8

If the budget is a concern, avoid the 18-105 zoom. I see you use the S3IS, by now you should be aware of the focal lengths you use the most and like to use. Depending on that you can take the call whether you need the 18-105 at all!!

I suppose you know 35mm lens on D90 will give you a fov of 52mm (personally I like 40 to 50mm as an all round lens) while the 50mm would give a fov of 75mm.

Thanks folks for the inputs. I think I would go for either a 50mm or 35mm for now (plus the kit lens). 70-300 can wait...

Before going digital, for some time I had used an old Yashica FX10 with a 50mm lens and absolutely loved the possibilities given by the 50mm (liked it better than 35 mm on an FX frame). However on a DX frame, as suggested by kkr2k2, I guess I'll get the same results with a 35mm.

So the 35mm looks more like it.

Do you still have that Yashika 50mm lens ?

Yes I still have it, even the camera, flash etc, though it's not been preserved in the proper way I'm afraid. Been in the Almirah for ages now.

I don't know if the lens and flash are going to be compatible with Nikon at all. Any idea? Or for that matter with Canon ?(my brother is into Canon)

I have both the 50s and the 1.4 is a much better lens. Its sharper than the 1.8 at larger apertures and has better contrast. Above F4 each of them is tack sharp.

Just wondering if anyone uses the Raynox 150 or 250 for macro shots. The 250 gives 8x magnification.
