Thats a very nice review - crisp and a delight to read for a pentax lover!!
BTW, the pics are very sharp!!! Fantastically sharp if I can say. Even the ones shot at 300mm!! The exif data of the "Another seagull in flight" says it was shot at 55mm!!:Shockked:

Thanks kkr2k2. Yes, the seagull shot was taken at 55mm. The bird was flying really low and slow, so I was kind of lucky to get that shot.
EDIT: The Pentax 55-300mm lens is considered one of the best consumer zoom lenses. The IQ is very good throughout the focal length. Sharpness, colors, contrast everything is good.
Pardon my ignorance..stupid:
Isn't N75 a mobile phone from Nokia? And how does this have lenses? Or am I missing something here...:Frustrati

Nikon N75 is what he meant.

I think he meant that he want to move to the DSLR domain and currently having a Nikon N75 aka F75 with 28-80 and 70-300. These used to be the standard kit lenses. Even I have this combination, but with N/F80 body. 70-300G lens makes hell of a noise compared to the newer lenses while focus hunting.

I want to use the new camera at least for next 8 years or so. I can't call myself even an ametaur; I'm just a beginner, who likes photography. I like to shoot kids in the the family and around, various people and their moods, jestures and emotions.

First check whether your N75 lenses are compatible with Nikon DSLRs . If yes go with D90 or D7000 body only and use the existing lens to start with. You can buy better lenses if required later.

If I correct, somewhere around N/F6x series, Nikon kit lenses became G series.
I have the first series of 70-300mm and it does make horrible noise while focusing but it rarely Focus Hunts on my D700 and is quite sharp and I quite like it. Only issue, it is not meant for MF. Its horrible at that.

That should not be a problem. I use both 28-80 and 70-300 on my D200 and both of them work perfectly well. I usually do MF on the 70-300, but I agree that ergonomically, it is not so good to use in MF. Another disadvantage is that you cannot use CP filter on them as the lens rotates while focusing.
Where can i purchase online tokina 11-16mm lens other than smartshoppers ?
Oops, sorry for the confusion I had created for not being clear enough in my first post. As some of the folks said above, I plan to buy a DSLR now and I have narrowed down to 550D and D90. I already have a Nikon N/F75 with two kit lens: 28-80 mm (F3.3 - 5.6) and the other one 70-300mm(F4-5.6), both G type AF Nikkor lens. I checked the lens compatibility in D90 user manual. These two lens can be used without any loss of functionality.
The questions I have in my mind:
a) will it be prudent to sell the N/F75 along with the kit lens and buy a 550D
b) Or buy D90 and reuse the lens? Further, how good these two lens will be for D90?
c) what will be equivalent focal range for these two lenses w.r.t. D90?

A noob question:
For getting good bokeh's which is better?
a) A fast prime lens (eg: 50mm f 1.x or f 2.x)
b) A tele-photo lens (eg: 250mm f 4.x or f 5.x)
This is assuming that the subject is in a very general situation; let's say good light, sufficient distance etc.

Ebay is a good option. Check for East Asian sellers. There are many from Taiwan, Hong Kong etc. Nothing wrong with smartshoppers. They quoted me 32500 with B&W last week. Shipping and customs could be a spoil sport when you get it from outside. So consider both sides of the coin. Are you a Nikon user ? Let me know when you get one, I love to test before buying :). I have plenty of friends using the same, but all are Canon boys.

Majority of the lenses work perfect with D90 as it has in-built focus motor. Focal length is always 1.5 times as any other DX body.

Primes are affordable these days (50mm 1.8 is around 5k). Tele can cost more (a 70-300 non-VR around 10k and VR around 25k) and can give closer kind of bokeh on the higher end in the situations you mentioned. People buy primes for sharpness, Excellent Bokeh, Low light, speed etc. A 1.4 or 1.8 prime can get the nose out of focus if eyes are focused. Thats the kind of Depth Of Field. So if Bokeh is priority, get a prime. Hope I have done justice to the answer. :D

shajufx, Ebay India doesn't even have one. I doesn't want to get one from HK or Taiwan having burnt my hand once with customs, also i will be going to Malaysia & Singapore around May so i have that option but i wanted to get one before.
Smart Shoppers has listed the lens at 33.5k with shipping and Jayesh has quoted 33.3 with B&W.
Sure, Yes i am a Nikon User :-)
