Guys quick question about Canon 15-85 IS USM and does anyone know latest price for this in grey and also with B&W.
Does canon non L lens purchased abroad carry international warranty or the warranty is country specific like bodies ?

Also pointers on price of Sigma 17-70 OS will be appreciated.

Can you call Fotocirlce for the prices. They have the best prices in India. Its in Bangalore but i have never been that much in Bangalore to guide you with the address.

15-85 should be around 35-45k in India( My guess). The same in US would be around 750USD.

AFAIK all canon lenses come with international warranty.

Generally it is international warranty on:

Film SLR cameras
Flash/Speedlights
Lenses
Some accessories such as filters

National or country specific warranties on DSLRs.

And Nikon USA doesnt bother to provide even paid service and repairs on grey market items.

I imagine Canon would take a similar line. Check their website for more info.

Regards,

Folks need your help on this lens for my D90.

AF NIKON 70-300mm f/4-5.6G ZOOM-NIKKOR

Is it ok for a price of 7k? Or do I REALLY need a VR lens.

Nikon India website says its for INR 6,185(Maximum Retail Price)

Nikon India Private Limited

The VR version is definitely a great thing but you have to decide, whether you want to pay that price!!

Depends on where you intend to use the lens. If shooting in bright daylight then the non VR version will serve you well as it is a value for money lens IMHO.

However, in low light surroundings the VR version will help you take photos without camera shake messing up the photos. And the VR has a far better build quality than the non-VR version, including a metal mount instead of plastic on non VR. The VR has ED element(s) too. It (VR) takes really sharp pics that become a bit soft towards the 300mm range.

There's a huge price difference (almost 5x) between the two. So that tells you a number of things related to build quality and features, not to mention performance. Decide carefully because you don't want to be selling your non-VR version to upgrade later. :-)

If I were you I'd buy the VR version. Lenses are long term investment unlike DSLR bodies that become obsolete in 2-3 years.

Cheers!

IMHO the older G version is one Nikon's worst efforts in making a 70-300 lens. The new VR is way way better but if the high cost deters you go for the newer 55-300 or the older D 70-300 or one of the third party equivalents.

Anybody knows where to find a good Photographer's Jacket in Bangalore?
Prices?

Very wise advise. Indeed the price difference was a concern but yes I need to think more.

Congrats gd1418, this is a lovely lens at a superb price I must say. Makes me feel like buying a macro..but the lens that I am aiming for is the 24-70 (already in your collection) sometime later this year.

Best to save up and buy a better lens than to get something of 'chalta hai' quality and then rush to upgrade after a while.

Ok guys here's the update: Once in the camera store, I lost my head and the heart ruled. I walked home with a D7000 kit with an additional 35mm prime (f1.8G) thrown in. And two fast memory cards to fit in the twin slots of the beast.

Congrats pjay_in. Have fun with your new DSLR. The D7000 is one of the best in the market today.

Cheers!
