I'm just back from my 2nd Ladakh trip. The cost I think totally depend on your mode of transport. If you are an avid biker then your cost might come down drastically. But if you are going to hire a vehicle then costs will shoot up. Bikes can be rented at Leh itself for 300-500Rs for pulsar kind of bikes and 600-900 for Bullets per day. Depending on the demand they will increase or decrease the rent amount. I've rented a khatara pulsar for just 300Rs for a day there. But the hiring price for cars (innova/Xylo/Scorpio etc) will depend on your destination and they've a fixed rate chart. So depending on how many people you've in your group will also determine the cost per head. For a Xylo type vehicle you can easily journey with 5 or 6 people very comfortably.
For Ladakh trip, acclimatization is very very important. You've to take rest the first day at Leh specially if you are travelling by flight. Take up things slowly and once you are acclimatized you can go around trekking/hiking or whatever you wish.

BTW, this time I've used 17-40mm L for the trip and I'm really in love with the lens. All these days I've been thinking about going for a general purpose lens and I think this could be answer. I was mostly using this lens for all my shots. Hardly I've used the 10-22mm this time. Next I would try the 24-105mm and would decide between these two to which one to buy first (and will get the other one later).

I only got 2 lights and some receivers from HK, nothing else, though the image posted looks like a huge list of things. All those wires and cables are useful only for a studio set up.

Learning lighting is fun, I am yet to figure out the position and power required for the third light :)

Oops, sorry man, didn't know that time that u would've been interested. Would've been great to have a photographer as a company. I was using 40D and 50D for the trip. Will soon post some images. This time I probably haven't got the kind of photographs I wanted.

HAA HAA! :uncontrol No buddy I am not a fan of the Autobot leader yet, though I must say he's cool. I am a self confessed sci fi fan ever since I saw Star Wars (my user name/alias on TBHP should tell you) and Star Trek the TV series when I was a school kid.

Back to the thread: Anyone is using extension tubes for macros ? I find them as cheap as 500 bucks on eBay. Is it worth ? They are just tubes without any glass in it, so does it anyway matter on the image quality ? I am not bothered about the auto-focus or aperture part as its done manually for macros. The mentioned product here has only the tube (3 pieces) and mounting slots, nothing else.

Someone had asked the same question few pages back as I remember, but I think it was bit more pricier one with the focus pin contacts etc.

It's worth it, but what about changing the aperture? That might be a little difficult. Also, there will be some light loss with ETs but then you have a D700, so bump the ISO up ;).
