UWAs are fantastic, but you cannot shoot all kinds of landscape with ultra wide. Ultra wide is useful for very special kind of photography.
If its not your cup of tea, get a 15-XX kind of zoom, much more versatile

This lens is one of the toughest to get in stores. They are available online but very tough to find them in stores.
If i were in us i wouldnt buy a lens new. I would go after used market where these lenses come and go very quickly.

Hi Tanveer,
How about picking up something like the nikon 10-24 UWA.
With this, onw would get to choose how wide one wants to go right?
Or is my understanding wrong?

In many settings you often want to go as narrow as 50-80mm, esp in mountains. I used a 10-24 lens earlier (canon mount tamron) , and often I found myself hampered.
Now 16-85 from Nikon is my primary. When I switched systems, I did not get myself a UWA.
For somebody very interested in arcitechture, UWA would be great

As Tanveer has rightly pointed out, unless you are really close to the subject an UWA is not going to help that much and you'll end up including more clutter than you want.
Guys, need some pointers. Is 28k a fair price for a Nov'10 D3100(+kit lens)?

I would agree to what tanveer says. And I've felt exactly the same when shooting at Ladakh this time. I've rented a 17-40mm and I found myself using that lens much much more than my 10-22mm. Now I'm planning to buy one lens in that range. Any suggestions apart from the obvious 17-40mm? Heard good things about Tamron 17-50mm, considering that it would lighter on pocket.

I had the initial version of the Tamron 17-50. In fact when i got my first camera Canon 20D i had a 50mm F1.8 for close to 4 months before getting the second lens which was 17-50. The lens is a bit noisy but does very well. The pictures are overall sharper after 20mm while 17mm has some corner fall off.
The newer version should be better for sure.
I may also look at the Tokina 16-50 which is underrated lens. The lens goes a little wider at 16mm and does everything the 17-50 does. I would give Tokina a preference over the Tamron.

Oh you are back ? Someone told me you sold your DSLR after reading this :D
Jokes apart, Sunil, some are good in writing as some are good in photographing, its not always we see both worlds come together in one brain. He enjoys writing as we enjoy shooting. Now what we are shooting and how we are presenting it is all an individual thing, I cant tell you "You should not do this, you should not go there, you should not put your name" etc. I enjoy putting my signature below the image than clicking itself. If I am not proud of myself, I will never enjoy what I am doing nor improve or learn from the action itself.
There are far better written DSLR stuff, teasing everyone in full glory, links of which were posted in this thread itself many times. Some are fun to read.
