The DSLR Thread
(
https://www.team-bhp.com/forum/gadgets-computers-software/11582-dslr-thread-709.html)
Friend is selling his equipment, so as to upgrade to D600.
Here's the deal:
Nikond D3100 (Body only) - 20,000/-
Nikon AF-S DX NIKKOR 35mm f/1.8G Lens - 10,000/-
Nikon AF-S DX Nikkor 18-105 mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR Lens - 14,500/-
There is some free stuff such as the bag, strap, 4 GB memory card, 3 filters.
My friend doesn't want to sell lenses independently, so he would prefer if someone picks up the whole package OR at least Camera with 18-105 lens.
Please PM me if someone is interested in the deal.

A dirty lens (read some really visible fungus growth) or dust in the sensor won't be affecting your image sharpness at all.

Like clevermax mentions, I think it could be either a wide open aperture at the lens' limits where the image is generally soft, or at a very small aperture (though unlikely going by what you've said about shutter speed) which causes softness due to diffraction. |
Thanks friends for the suggestions. Most of the parameters were similar to the previous shot except with aperture which was wider this time. Other than that I guess the atmospheric factors may have caused.
Anyways the dirt in lens has been ruled out. Thanks a lot for that. Otherwise the lens is performing as expected (I mean its not a great lens anyways). Its just this moon shot that I was not very happy with. Like you guys said may be a focusing issue.
I just returned from a 4-day drive to Chitkul-Kalpa. Shot about 350 pics with D300-Tokina 11-16 combo. Strangely about 50 pics are completely out of focus. I used to think that it's next to impossible to click an out-of-focus image with an ultra-wide, but this has left me surprised.
Any idea what could be the reason?

With a wide angle, there is a higher probability that a shot can still be in focus even if you leave it in MF without realizing. Can you post couple of samples?

M5_fan, I recently bought the Nikon D5100 with 18-55 VR kit lens for Rs.29999/- from zoomin.com. Recently I saw some deals going on in ebay for the same camea at 29K. you may want to check those.
I am also investing on the Nikon AF-S DX NIKKOR 35mm f/1.8G Lens from flipkart at Rs.12775. |
I see many offers/deals on ebay ( from sellers with 80% to 99.3% positive feedback ) -
Giving DSLRs for 2-3K less than market price.
Are these as genuine? The price difference is considerable!
Heard about batteries getting swapped with 3rd party ones - and other stories.
Then I feel - It's much better to walk to JJ Mehta store and get it at market price!
People who have bought with deals / or those who know someone who has bought with these deals
- can you please shed some light?
@gopikb - I am particularly looking at exactly the 2 items you have mentioned!
If you see a deal - please let me know ( I am searching already - zoomin now shows the 33.9K price :( .. )
Waiting for a good deal.
Thanks,
Ace. EDIT-

We should be very cautious when making a high value purchase through Ebay. I would prefer not to buy anything from Ebay which costs more than Rs. 5k. There are very high chance that you will get the refurbished piece instead of a brand new one. Even if it is couple of k's more get the cameras from the local dealer or through Flipkart.
Before doing any deal on ebay check the feedback of seller and also check feedback for the product you are interested.
Also watch out for warranty. Some say dealer warranty which means you have to send it back to him if any issue
Ask questions. I try to query ppl who bought same product from him and also clarify all my doubts from him before doing business.

driverace, Use coupon code "AMZN3000" to get Rs.3000 off in zoomin.com. I was sent this coupon code when I got the camera. It was valid until 5-Oct-2012.
As far as my purchase goes, it was good experience with zoomin. The camera was received in sealed box and has been working perfectly well so far.
^^i had recently bought the Nikon D5100 from ebay which included the 18-55mm lens kit and 4gb/DSLR bag.
had the warranty card and purchase receipt for the cam body and lens along with the box.
this is enough to claim warranty as per their terms.
im against dealer warranty for any stuff especially if the dealer isnt from your city.
like some members say, contact seller and other buyers before hand and give a good look into matters such as feedback scoring.
another good and easy way to know background of seller is to just google the seller name along with ebay prefixed.

hey, Thanks for that coupon! :)
Any particular reason you preferred zoomin over ebay?
@rajshenoy -
Thanks - will double check that - but like I mentioned - the sellers I see are mostly with good ratings.
@ariendj -
I will google more about the seller giving the current deal - thanks for that tip.
If you don't mind - could you share what deal you got on your cam? ( approx. when you purchased that? )
The link I shared earlier - also gives Nikon India 2 year warranty ( that's good - since it is clearly mentioned in the description -I will confirm it again by contacting the seller)
Thanks for the quick feedback folks!
Ace.

i got 28.9k for Nikon D5100 with kit lens and 4gb+bag.
the product was sealed and came with warranty papers.
onething to note is,ask the seller to make sure that they send the bill receipt.
as per the documents, warranty will be valid only if the warranty card and purchase receipt is present!
Gurus
Will there be any chances of reduction of d5100 prices once the 5200 releases?
Also please suggest me a good lens for landscape photography. Im thinking of skipping the 18-55 kit lens and going in for a prime lens. Any other lenses can be recommended only for landscapes ? Im not much interested in portraits.
My earlier endeavour with my slr didn't work out as great as I'd hoped for. Looks like its time to go digital. Am i correct to opt for the 5100 or should i go for a lower version? Or do you suggest Canon in that price range?
I won't be changing my camera in the near future as in 2 - 3 years and would use this first to learn and later to experiment. Im tired of missing the opportunity to capture good shots. Just the other day, missed out on a chance to click a once in a lifetime shot, as my slr failed on me and my p&s had only 4x zoom :(
Please help with your advice and suggestions.
Thanks.

I bought my camera about a month ago. At that time zoomin was providing the cheapest cost with coupon at Rs.29999. Ebay was quoting about Rs.32K. Now I see that prices at ebay has dropped close to Rs.28.9K.
Looks like ariendj had a good experience from a seller at ebay. you can probably try the same seller.
Moreover, I had ordered multiple photo prints from zoomin in the past and their service had always been prompt. With that confidence I purchased the DSLR from zoomin.
I bought my SLR in ebay for 23K when others were selling around 25/28K. Till now I had no issues with the camera and it was sealed when opening the box with 2 years canon india warranty after registering in canon site.
I had a good experience with ebay.in, so would recommend it, but check the feedback of the seller before buying it.
