Hi,

Planning to gift a mirrorless camera to a friend of mine. The sony nex 5N reviews are good.

Found a deal from 42photo.com, a US online retailer for $469. This looks too good.

Why is this model retailing below other similar cameras with smaller sensors and lesser features?

It has a sensor as big as what you find in the entry level DSLR, ISO upto 25000, built in panorama and HDR options, tiltable 3 inch LCD and gives you complete control as in a DSLR with the P/A/S/M modes.

Am I missing something here?

Cheers

Vindy

If in doubt, do http://snapsort.com/

Can't comment on how handy this tool has come in on the numerous occasions when I have been asked by family and friends on suggesting a good camera with their list of features or plain compare this-vs-that situations. The whole thing is done with a lot of love and it shows. Targeted at confused buyers, that's us :) and it works.

The first thing I can think of is the number E-mount lenses available for NEX-5. As per Sony website, there are just 3. If you need more lenses, you would need to buy an adapter and then you can use other lenses of Sony and Minolta on NEX.

Secondly, after the launch of NEX-7 and NEX-6, NEX-5 seems outdated to an extent.

Cheers!

Now the 4k is ok for me as its a newer model. stupid:

For now I was thinking of picking this up for less than 35 and adding a 55-250 later on completing the package in an even 50k.

If you ask me - I only saw the most comfortable to use body (crop) - with decent sensor. other convenient options may or may not come at a justifiable price.
E.g. the flip out screen @ 4k wouldn't sound good to me.
Saving for gear / lenses seems to be better.
Have been reading for good amount of time now :)
(Your spending will definitely be higher than you estimate now :p.)

Does anybody know if there is a coupon to buy this lens?:D

You can try infibeam.com as well. pretty decent prices

Sometime this month, somebody posted a link to compare the dynamic range of various dSLRs, can somebody point it out. I am unable to find it.

guys, need urgent opinion.

I have finalized Nikon D7000 as my entry to DSLR World. :D

I am confused about lens to order. I have two option

1. Get D7000 with 18-55 mm and 55-300mm
2. Get D7000 with just 18-200mm.

Price wise both are same.

If i do option 1, i will have to carry 2 lens everywhere but i get 100mm more range and possibly a better lens in 55-300mm.

If i do option 2, i just have to worry about 1 lens but lose 100mm in range.

So which one should it be? Please advise as i need to order it today

Thank you

Hi Samurai,

I had posted some info on the dynamic range of the Nikon D600 vs some of the other models in the post:

Is this what you were looking for?

Besides this, you can find all the DXO mark results for almost all the DSLRs on the website www.dxomark.com

I have finalized Nikon D7000 as my entry to DSLR World.

I was contemplating between D5100 and D7000 and almost everything seems identical in both cameras including the all important sensor which is supposed to be the best in Nikon in both these camera. Except a few marginal plus points in D7000, I didnt find it attractive enough to pay the huge cost difference.

Btw, do also buy a prime lens which you will use more than the telephoto lens. Choose between the 50mm OR 35mm

Guys,

I bought the D5100 from Zoomin.in which I got it for Rs.19,400 in exchange of my Nikon D40x. Delivery of same should happen by Dussera. Awesome Deal..eh?clap:

I havent bought the prime lens at the same time of ordering the camera as i am still confused between the below :-

Nikon 50mm AF-S 1.8/G vs. Nikon 35mm AF-S 1.8/G

Both above prime lens are almost identical in pricing with a few hundred bucks here and there. Can someone suggest which of the above two is worth the investment?

To be honest, I am tilting towards the 35mm as been reading some fantastic reviews of this glass.

Usage Pattern : I foresee this prime lens to become my "all purpose" lens due to its size, weight, all roundness ( even compared to kit lens). So keeping this in mind , which prime lens to go for?

Can you please share how the exchange happens? Do you need to ship them the camera or someone will come and pick the item?

Edit:
Please ignore the above query.

I checked in the site for couple of exchange options. Looks like the price reduction coming in same with various models selected (D40x, D5000, D7000 etc). Below offer was the most interesting one

"ZoomIn Instant Exchange offer is Rs. 14,377 for your Nikon D7000 when you purchase a Nikon D7000 Kit (18-105mm VR Lens"

Not about the deal - but have a look at what you gain over 550D in that price. (Only MP is not a good step up IMHO)
More Logical step up seems to be the 650D.
For head to head comparison - please have a look at snapsort (if you haven't already)
Just my 2 paisa - since I was pretty much trying to choose from the trio of Canon too!

Canon 600D also has master mode flash on-board you can use a 480EX II
or YN468 II off-camera in TTL mode , Without this you need either a Canon ST2 or equivalent or Canon 580 EX II flash on cam to trigger off camera flash ( retaining ETTL2)

So for 4K rs for both flip out screen and on board master flash in 600D is good upgrade over 550D.

Then it is the 35mm, simply because it has wider coverage than a 50mm, you'll need that especially while shooting people indoors.
